DNC Votes 222-137 Against Allowing Candidates to Participate in Climate Debate

https://earther.gizmodo.com/dnc-votes-222-137-against-allowing-candidates-to-partic-1837543829

Democratic National Committee delegates in San Francisco voted against allowing candidates to participate in a primary debate focused on climate change, per the Mercury News, in a contentious 222-137 vote that comes amid ongoing devastation in the Amazon rainforest and growing evidence that scientists have underestimated the pace at which the world is warming.

Top DNC officials shot down the idea of holding an official climate debate earlier this week. This vote was separate and decided whether the party would change its rules to allow the candidates to participate in an unsanctioned, third-party debate without risking consequences. Protesters interrupted the meeting, shouting “We can’t wait” and “Failure of leadership,” according to the Mercury News.

"The summer of 2019 was an unprecedented year for fires in the Arctic. major fires burned throughout the Arctic in Russia, Canada, and Greenland: "Arctic infernos released 50 megatons of carbon dioxide—the equivalent of Sweden’s total annual emissions—into the atmosphere in June alone. This amount represents more than was emitted by Arctic fires in the same month between 2010 to 2018 combined." Learn more about NASA Studies How Arctic Wildfires Change the World."

While the wildfires in the Amazon rainforest have made international headlines, it’s just one of many areas battling raging infernos around the world.

Wildfires are burning in several other countries, including Spain, Greece and Alaska."

I doubt anything is going to be done to slow down warming.

We need to take a page from the repubs, who use the 'wink, wink, nudge, nudge" all the time. They all know that their candidates have a certain agenda, subjects which are often controversial and can lose votes, so they try not to mention them. We need to trust that our candidates are all pro-LGBTQ, pro-choice, pro-environment and pro-separation of church and state...and then not mention these topics during the campaign. No reason to stir it up.

Sure about this Tom McKay's reporting about an "unsanctioned"
Debate, especially since his tweet goes out of its way to take some not so subtle jabs at Biden

I want to hear from other sources than gizmodo on this

As far as on the single issue debate, they voted on it and it lost, and it wasnt by just one or two votes

Also, the article is badly written by this McKay, and appears intentionally misleading

Democratic National Committee delegates in San Francisco voted against allowing candidates to participate in a primary debate

A primary debate that would lead to no debate with 10 candidates and 30 seconds to answer.

What is happening:

As the Mercury News noted, there will be two separate CNN and MSNBC presidential forums next month offering candidates the chance to explain their platforms

No debate, yet each will be able to explain their platform. You make it sound like the DNC doesn't care about climate change. They do.
