Gorsuch, Roberts, Alito, and Kavanaugh are all young men.

And Thomas will never retire with a Democratic President.

that options that have never been used become viable, and likely to be turned to. A court inimical to the interests of the American people, controlled by the corrupt political agents of a few, would create the necessary demand for action by the people, while one that was merely strongly influenced by those agents, as now, might limp along corruptly influenced for some years.

I don't know all options, but one is removal of unfit justices. Kavanaugh of course leaps to mind. Investigation of Thomas (and very likely other conservative justices in this intensely corrupt environment) would almost certainly reveal unethical and perhaps even illegal conduct. Scalia flew to many secret meetings with RW powers, not just the one he died at. The Republicans create fake scandals, but we wouldn't have to. Another legal option is changing the number of justices.

But, we're not there yet. Treatment for our Notorious RBG is described as "definitive" and the announcement is that no further treatment is needed. Let's hope that remains true.

And, yes, fck Sarandon and every other 3rd party voter. So many of us here on DU warned them and they sniffed and said the courts weren't important.

recover to survive many more years.

I know Carter’s cancer is not the same, but he’s still with us, did have a diagnosis of serious nature.

Not excusing Sarandon's contemptible dishonesty and irresponsibility, of course. Unlike most of those who didn't bother to take a stand by voting, though, she may not be capable of better. Deluded whackadoodles unfit for the duties of citizenship aren't only a RW phenomenon.

Yeats nailed it back in the 1890s-1930s when extremism rising both sides got control and threatened to set civilization back to the dark ages, leading to murderous communist and fascist regimes, two world wars, the holocaust. We're there again.

Poetic simplicity of course. The worst are full of passionate intensity, as is their nature, but our best haven't really all lost all conviction.

Best, best wishes for our Notorious RBG. Pancreas is scary.

How many votes do you think Susan Sarandon cost us, really? How many from key demographics in contested states?

I can't predict the future, but I don't think the historians—when they finally get around to analyzing 2016 in great detail—are going to lay much of the blame on an actress whose peak period of mainstream success was, what, 1988?
