The Twit tweets: "Our great American companies are hereby ordered to immediately start looking..."

Our Country has lost, stupidly, Trillions of Dollars with China over many years. They have stolen our Intellectual Property at a rate of Hundreds of Billions of Dollars a year, & they want to continue. I won’t let that happen! We don’t need China and, frankly, would be far....

....better off without them. The vast amounts of money made and stolen by China from the United States, year after year, for decades, will and must STOP. Our great American companies are hereby ordered to immediately start looking for an alternative to China, including bringing..

....your companies HOME and making your products in the USA. I will be responding to China’s Tariffs this afternoon. This is a GREAT opportunity for the United States. Also, I am ordering all carriers, including Fed Ex, Amazon, UPS and the Post Office, to SEARCH FOR & REFUSE,....

....all deliveries of Fentanyl from China (or anywhere else!). Fentanyl kills 100,000 Americans a year. President Xi said this would stop - it didn’t. Our Economy, because of our gains in the last 2 1/2 years, is MUCH larger than that of China. We will keep it that way!

Views on this differ, but China does not necessarily need the US, oh, and China owns about $1.2-trillion in US government treasuries and does not seem to want to buy our garbage anymore.

I think that the interdependence between the two countries would be better looked at as mutually beneficial rather than as completely adversarial and antagonistic:

That article is prior to the start of the trade war, but this quote might be salient in regards to an overall view of the potential outcome, so I thought I would include it here:

Were Trump to start a trade war, the most immediate effects would probably be felt by companies like Walmart, which import billions of dollars of cheap goods that are bought mostly by the people who voted Trump into office. The prices on almost all of these items would quickly skyrocket beyond the reach of the lower economic brackets—not because of manufacturing costs, but because of the tariffs. The result would be an economic war of attrition that China is infinitely better positioned to win.

I think that says it all in short form. The tariffs are going to take the cheap out of the goods and that hurts the people who can barely afford them now, the most, and that's only one spear on the wheel of sharp weapons being unleashed by an emboldened dotard who is obviously lost in the woods and pretty much out to lunch.

Putin must really be loving this. Sit back and watch as the economic debacle of a tale told by an idiot unfolds. "Da, Trumpsky! Khoroshiy!"

If that were so, why not just order Planned Parenthood to stop providing abortions? Stop t-shirt printers from printing democratic themed t-shirts or shirts insulting to POTUS? Drug companies to stop producing fenatyl, and order Doctors to stop prescribing it? Heck, order all golf courses not owned by trumpft to water their greens with gatorade

Somehow, I don't think capitalism will allow the president to order business to shoot themselves in the foot.

China owned $1.1T of US debt as of May. According to Forbes, Chinese investors were the single largest group of foreign investors in commercial real estate in the U.S. in 2016, with deal volumes reaching a record high of $19.2 billion, up 10% from 2015.

Trump can't order companies to do anything unless the government issues an embargo.

He is losing it and might just be bailing out and giving up.
