Im not convinced Trumps thoughts and deeds are totally the result of mental illness.
Trumps systematic dismantling of our institutions, destruction of accepted norms, targeting of specific groups and disregard for long-held alliances has taken some planning.Trump doesnt have the intelligence or the attention span to do this on his own. He doesnt know anything about history or who belongs where or what goes with what. He doesnt understand decorum, protocol, customs, norms.
Hes willing to flagrantly disregard human rights and openly praise dictators without so much as a hint of concern about possible consequences. He seems to have no personal standards or guiding principles. Theres no such thing as too low with him.
He doesnt seem to be connected to his family, shows no emotion around them. He openly exhibits his sexual fantasies about Ivanka and treats his wife like shes a mannequin. The familys entire existence is like a Pose-A-Thon. Unreal, inhuman, plastic. Its odd and unsettling.
Since Trump is not bogged down with principles and can be easily manipulated using compliments Im betting someone or a group of someones decides whats next. Trump certainly didnt dream up the name of each one of his right-wing judicial picks nor does he know enough about international affairs to know which treaties to ignore.
Who or what is behind Donald Trumps wrecking ball presidency and what is the payoff that solidifies and guarantees the enabling by almost an entire political party?

(10,252 posts)Big money means Wall St, Fossil Fuel, International corporations, the 1%ers, Insurance companies, the war machine, gun manufacturers (NRA). They embrace gigantic tax cuts, buy Republican politicians, and pretend to be anti-abortion to get Evangelical support.

(5,403 posts)his followers believe that his great wealth (a life style that he probably can not afford) makes him immune to common forms of corruption. they are delusional. if trump is a billionaire it is because he will con a poor person of their last $1.
who had the authority to order the 16 republicans to stand down in 2016? most of them are funded by the kochs, who pull a lot of weight in those circles.
in old interviews, such a the playboy interview (1980) or vanity fair (1995) trump cites carl ichan, the corporate raider as an influence. how much of an influence?
he owes money. lots of money. to Russian gangsters. I think investigations into Russian influence that concentrate on putin or Moscow are misdirected. there are plenty of Russians as close as trump tower.
and the we get to the guys who have goods on him
Epstein's heir has some interesting video. has this been neutralized?
putin might have some film if you believe the steele business. I think there is some truth there.
my bottom line. trump is plenty stupid, but he has to have help to be this stupid.

(14,490 posts)where the core of this administration's thoughts and deeds come from, although we hear little of their real dirty work. Not really much different from what shaped the policies of Nixon, Reagan and 2X Bush administrations.
Such as:
* Heritage Foundation,
* American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC),
* Koch foundations and institutes,
* American Enterprise Institute (AEI),
* Cato Institute (libertarian side),
and dozens more.
These right-wing organizations and many other sister orgs around the globe design legislative, governing and judicial policy which shapes the thinking of a large percentage of global politics. The right-wing side of politics does not exist in a vacuum, but instead is a complex loose-knit international web of cruel, greedy and selfish high-wealth people that fund these think tanks. Prestigious-looking think tanks provide a veil of legitimacy over the worst of humanity's evil side.
That does not include the tens of thousands of billionaires that fund background services (such as Faux news and talk radio) and pour millions into campaign contributions.
Let's all remind ourselves often of the irony that these organizations are ultimately funded by profits from our purchases of goods and services that flow into corporate coffers. That knife is twisted in our back every time we buy gasoline or groceries or toys or a meal at our favorite restaurant.
