There is nothing wrong with an impeachment inquiry.

There is nothing wrong with saying you are in an impeachment inquiry.

It will be interesting to see how the Court rules on the House Judiciary request for Grand Jury information?

How much more specific will the House have to be about their "impeachment inquiry"?

Donald Trump and the Republicans should be happy that it is not a full-blown impeachment indictment. No matter how much they spin it, an impeachment process in the House would not be good news for them.

Except they do have big appetites. It takes a lot of evidence to convince them that crimes have been committed and the rules of law have been violated.

That is why the impeachment inquiry is necessary. There should be no time limit on it because there is so much to investigate. It doesn't really matter if it goes thru election day. There is no reason to halt the investigation. It must be done.

There will be oversight from the Democrats.

2. Yep! I'm glad an inquiry is finally in process.

I expected it to begin with a vote of the House because that's how the impeachment inquiries of Nixon & Clinton began, but the House Judiciary Committee can also initiate the process, as they recently did.

That was a smart way of minimizing risk to vulnerable House seats.

5. So if the court gives the grand jury info to Nadler

without Nadler having to launch a formal impeachment committee, what's the next step?

The grand jury information is going to contain testimony from all of the people who have ignored subpoenas. It is going to contain a lot of incriminating information against the Trump administration.

What's the next move?

6. They want to get all the information before they subpoena witnesses like Don McGahn.

Jeff Sessions would be a very interesting witness .

that bogus executive privilege stall tactic.

They should have called Chris Christie and Corey Lewandowski by now, I don't see any executive privilege excuse for them.

My point is that after they get the grand jury info, if they get it, the next step is articles of impeachment, so why not just do it now?

4. The court should give the grand jury information,

but it isn't a given. The language of 6(e) states that grand jury info can be given to preliminary investigations into impeachment. The court can simply agree with Nadler that this is a preliminary investigation that may result in impeachment, or the court could deny the information and claim that nothing really changed with Nadler's committee other than a change of wording.

If the request for the grand jury information were made by an impeachment committee, getting it would be a slam dunk.
