My father, whom I've referred to countless times in my posts, once told me that the most frightening two words a soldier can hear are the words "Unconditional Surrender". That means and meant that the military must fight until the last breath of the enemy is taken from him and the capitulation is forced rather than elective. For my Dad, who agreed with the policy as implemented in WWII, it meant that he would most certainly die on the shores of the islands of Japan, since they were readying his battalion for the land invasion. The bomb was then dropped of course, and the rest is history, and he, unlike hundreds of thousands of others including the resident populations of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, was spared.
We must fight and force unconditional surrender of these fascists who have co-opted the Federal Government and are systematically destroying anything and everything which promotes liberty, health, welfare, education, science, and Truth. The process can give no quarter to the enemy...not one iota, because even if half-dead, they will rise up and attempt to destroy us.
So I don't particularly want to hear odes to the sanctity of the wives and children of these miscreants. There is a pervasive evil which is imbued in them all and like the Anopheles mosquito or the Medfly, we must eradicate them from the positions of power, starting with dogcatcher and proceeding up the ladder to the Presidency. I for one give not a millimeter of ground. There is no falling back, only marching forward.

(15,557 posts)I'm not one for hyperbole or fearmongering, but what we witnessed at this traitor's last rally should scare the beejeebers out of those of us that are sane. If you think these people at his rallies have been emboldened to come out from under their rocks and do what they did in Charlottesville and Greenville, you just wait. If he wins/steals the election again, there will be more of them slithering out from their rocks and what they do now will pale compared to what we will see if he wins reelection.

(15,557 posts)I watched a short PBS clip last night on how Stone Mountain in Georgia came about, and how they have a law that states it can never be removed/altered in any way. It was conceived and erected as a tribute to the KKK. I've never been there, but when I lived in the South I worked with a woman who would get absolutely beside herself with how touching and beautiful a visit to Stone Mountain made her feel. She kept urging me to go (I used to have to go to Georgia on business quite often), and even back then (late 80's - early 90's) I thought, no way in hell would I go there.
This is what frightens me the most. There are plenty of people in our country who would love to have white nationalism rule.

(10,216 posts)He made all sorts of unilateral military decisions that inevitably led to the Nazis' downfall.
If not for some of the more diabolical genius strategists supporting Hitler, he would have been wiped out when he attacked Poland.
And that's the point. If not for the evil capitalist kings, a little Russian mobster and money grubbing henchmen, Trump would be gone by now.
If Melania didn't provide him with a sexual outlet, he would be forced to hunt down more unwilling partners. Actively predating on his voter's children maybe where they draw the line.
He's a psychopath and because of that he has very perverted sexual needs that most people would find abusive. Melania doesn't or if she does, she likes the money more.
Like all the people around Trump, she supports him in his political abuse of others. If she didn't, she would have to dump him and that might just force him over the edge. She enables him to be the monster he is.

(81,527 posts)The so-called good Germans believed their Fuhrer and believed IN him. They were filled to the brim with denial. And they had a VERY rude awakening when it came to an end and he and his girlfriend took the easy way out, leaving damnable wreckage and ruin and suffering for everybody else to have to pick through and clean up. They didnt fully realize what had been done in their name - like what happened at the camps and in the gas chambers and the ovens.
And they were shocked and rudely wrenched awake.
Wonder if were moving in that direction here, and now?

(32,823 posts)... must swear their allegiance to the U.S. Constitution. This is true for civilian and military, whether elected, appointed or drafted into service. Swearing allegiance to the Constitution - not to a person, not to a party, nor to any group. Do people even understand the meaning and the importance of that?
I think if they did understand, a lot of this shit wouldn't happen. There needs to be consequences to these people for what they're doing to our government. Americans need to be re-educated, and if not then they should be permanently banned from government positions of authority. I'd start with everyone working in the White House right now.

(83 posts)The republicans are no longer the "opposition" and haven't been since the 1980 election. They are and have been the *enemy* since the ascension of St. Ronald of Reagan. Giving the Bush/Cheney war criminals a pass was a mistake. Democratic administrations never take it to the enemy. And that's why I support almost any candidate running other than Joe Biden, who would be another "nice" president. I've had it with nice. I want a fighter in the WH who recognizes that we're at war!
P.S. My standard disclaimer -- I will vote for Biden if he is the Democratic candidate.

Melania. We're beyond the "dutiful wife" as a possession to be admired or felt sorry for... I don't have much admiration for how the Third Lady conducts herself. However, I do not feel it's right to include their youngest son. Given his parents, there isn't a lot of hope - but, I wouldn't start until he's out of whatever Ivy League school they get for him.

(893 posts)In the end.
I agree an invasion of Japan would have been a bloodbath. That's why Truman dropped two atomic bombs on Japan. Imagine Americans finding out we had unspeakably powerful bombs and Truman decided to allow hundreds of thousands of American casualties in an invasion of mainland Japan.
TiberiusB
(490 posts)The intentional targeting of civilian populations isn't some hazy rule open to interpretation. We bombed Japan to demonstrate our power to Russia and to punish the Japanese. A land invasion would not have cost hundreds of thousands of lives, either. That's just massive hyperbole built up over the decades to justify the attacks. That would mean more soldiers would die in Japan than in the rest of WWII. Not likely. We even continued to bomb Japan for days after the Nagasaki strike. Think about this, if Japan was truly prepared to fight to the last man, woman, and child, why did the atomic bombs change anything? Why did Japan open negotiations for surrender before the bombings? Really, there is no way to spin the atomic bombing of Japan into some sort of humanitarian act.

(893 posts)I said Soviet Russia entering the war against Japan convinced the Japanese to surrender to the United States.
At no time did I suggest the dropping of either atomic bomb was a humanitarian act and not a war crime - which it was, just like the carpet bombing of cities during the war. I challenge you to point out where I said anything you accused me of.
I suggest you read closer and assess your own prejudices before you reply next time.
TiberiusB
(490 posts)Truman pretty much admitted the bombings were for revenge and to demonstrate U.S. power to the Russians (and Japan, obviously). Yes, he wanted to avoid an invasion, but Japan was already pursuing talks for surrender. An invasion would have been unnecessary. The projected casualty numbers for Operation Downfall ballooned over time from under 50k to over a million. It's impossible to believe that people would back any invasion with those kinds of casualties. It was never going to happen, and I suspect the rising numbers were meant to solidify any argument against invasion.

(58,785 posts)That's Nancy Pelosi quoting liberal Justice Louis Brandeis in her address to the nation on the opening of the 116th congress. From the highest-ranking Democrat in the nation, the newly elected Speaker of the House, wow!
The MSM buried what is actually a huge story, but you can be sure our new billionaire and centimillionaire classes heard her loud and clear. Not that they didn't already know and weren't already at war with the Democratic Party has always been an existential threat to them.
Those are the enemy we must destroy. It's not a matter of their surrender. We use our voting power as citizens to eliminate wealth accumulation that threatens the existence of our democracy. We are 330,000,000 people to whom a paltry 70,000 families are causing great harm. We not only can but it's our duty. Our party will act when we give them enough power.
It's not like our grandparents and our party hadn't done it before. We need to be even firmer this time, though. Wealth accumulation so extreme that it's incompatible with government of, by and for the people must not be allowed.
