General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI have said all along that the R's would be pushing Nikki Haley.
Either as a replacement for Pence or for DT.
If we don't have a woman on the ticket -- preferably at the top -- we face a real risk with Haley. We know that Haley is a right-wing conservative, but she comes across as a moderate, and she managed to emerge unscathed from her time serving the Trump administration.
Imagine how the electoral map could be rewritten if the R's managed to elect the first woman to the Presidency.
The WSJ opinion piece is from a Democratic TRUMP supporter touting the advantages of putting Haley on the ticket. And it's hard to argue with his point of view. How could Haley not do better among women voters than VP Pence?

Republican National Committee Chairman Ronna McDaniel recently asked why are we losing with women? Mr. Trump has promoted women to the highest echelons of the White House. But elevating energetic and effective leaders like Kellyanne Conway, Hope Hicks and Sarah Huckabee Sanders has earned him scant credit.
Its too late for Mr. Trump to revamp his political personality. But with the 2016 election in the past, Nikki Haley on the ticket could tamp down the antipathy for Mr. Trump that seems to afflict so many moderate and Republican-leaning women. President Trump needs the prospect of a Vice President Haley to help recapture the White House.

(9,426 posts)if Haley is promoted. She has her heart set on becoming the first female president. Look at all the "work" she has put into her "job". Besides, tRump likes to keep things in the family. Ivanka VP, Jr. as Chief of Staff, Eric as - what can Eric be? Maleria as spokesmodel.

(11,882 posts)I think Haley has no intention of running with trump, and its being floated without her consent, and then they'll switch it to the daughter instead. That way trump can say she was refused the position and mad if she runs against him. Like trump has lied and done with Mueller. Haley scares trump , and she hates him. They will try to dump pence because they don't trust him, and by putting the daughter into the VP position it would be to protect him if they did impeach him.

(19,908 posts)regards Haley, she escaped without too much baggage, lucky for her, but she would be an utter fool to even consider it. That said, #ETTD.

(5,265 posts)but I would be surprised if pence is dropped in 2020, and of course trump tops their ticket.
the rumored affair between trump and haley is not a liability to the Teflon turd, but could end Haley's career if it is proven.

(18,486 posts)But it's possible that for every "moderate" Republican woman such a nice would pick up, he'd lose at least one (if not more) racist, misogynistic supporter pissed at Trump for falling victim to "identity politics" and who resents having a white man lose his job to a brown-skinned woman.
So I don't know.

(14,543 posts)She can't beat him, no R can.
Doing so would hurt her in 2024.
I do think it would be the crazy ivan kind of thing for 45 to change up his VP going into his reelect, and she would be a strong pick inn that regard, as noted, she is "popular" generally because she is disciplined in not saying how much of a loon she is, and is pretty. Kind of a Sarah Palin part two, except not as stupid and bombastic.
Would raise her profile for a future run, and the press would be all giddy about it.
