when i saw that name, i knew it was gonna be bad.
they run international intellectual sweatshops.

my ex worked w them for several years as an IT director.
they had a crew in pune, india, running performance tests and writing code. they called them "the cogs", and that is what they were.

i dont know what it is like now, as this was 10 years ago, but we went there and toured the place. it was a gleaming big building, shiny and clean. and honestly, the best food we had in 10 days there was at their cafeteria, which gave employees free meals.
he had long term relationships w their management people. they all felt like they were super lucky people. and they did own apartments and cars, unlike many. most had household help, or supported extended families.

but i had no illusions that it was like that every day, or that all their employees were that well treated. the line programmers that we met all struck me as kinda hungry. they had a look about their eyes that was the same as the waiters and maids at the hotels, who knew how to look happy, when they lived in tin shacks behind the hotels. a shade of steppin fetchit.

it is beyond infuriating that fb is hiring them to run shops like this.
i dont think this would fly in calcutta.

i watched this because being a mod here was one of the most interesting things i have done. i wondered how it compared.
for one thing, we did it from home. why the hell these people cant do that, i have no idea. it was so much more manageable when shit got real.
and instead of quotas, they should be doing bonuses and spiffs. i wonder if their bosses got poked about performance as much as the folks at the bottom. dont tell me they dont know how to structure contracts w carrots as well as sticks.

the fact that they could tag this content, but not stopping it from coming back is, frankly, not believable.

i still use the platform, but jebus.
do better zuck.
now.

WTH is wrong with people? What kind of lunatic posts videos like that? Have social media created that kind of illness, or have people always been that prone to cruelty and vileness but never had the outlets for it?
I hope someday soon we can look back at these years and think that we’ve progressed beyond this kind of horror. I’ve always thought that people are basically good, but I also stick to a pretty innocent pattern of Internet browsing so I had no idea of what is going on out there.
