'The president's insane': book by CNN's Jim Acosta charts Trump war on press

Acosta’s book, subtitled A Dangerous Time to Tell the Truth in America, will be published on 11 June. The Guardian obtained a copy.

True to the style of Washington political reporting often complained about by Trump, Acosta mostly uses unnamed sources, many of whom are said to have spoken over social drinks. They are often blunt in their assessment of their boss. A “senior White House official” tells Acosta: “The president’s insane.”

We've known this, but it does beg the question: What kind of people willingly work for a man who is out of his mind?

Sources are sources. It's up to the journalist (and their readers) to vet the sources.

My gripe is that, the second paragraph of the article was quick to point out that sources were "unnamed". If sources were forced to go on the record, no one would ever talk.

are mostly people who knew nothing, or very little, about him in the first place. It would be a little easier to swallow Trump's lies if you didn't know he was a scumbag from the beginning. Anyone who's paid attention to the news in the past fifteen years would at least have a cursory knowledge of the orange idiot. Many mid-west and western Americans had no idea who Donald Trump was. All they probably knew was that he's wealthy. Well..... supposedly wealthy. They should know by now that he's a lying sack of excrement, but many still buy into the myth of Trump.

Then why work for this Orange Nazi? Some folks have worked in the White House for decades. Hairplug Himmler made sure to fire certain ones upon arrival, believe he made sure to terminate the Butler? Maybe even a Chef or two? But there are those who have made a Career out of their Federal Employment. Perhaps they began their employment during the Reagan years, Bush 1, then Clinton, Bush 2, Obama, now they are patiently waiting for retirement age, so they can get the F**K out of there, Federal Pension (with Health Insurance) in hand. Not everyone can leave a well-paying Federal Job, move and get same pay, and benefits.

I know, I know, it's easy to criticize, but having been there through from Clinton, Bush 2, then Obama, I was NEVER so happy to be able to retire early after Orangesicle grasped power and took over Our Country. Not all are as fortunate. Not all can walk away. We all have mortgages and Utilities, Insurance, groceries. Easy to forget.

It goes with the territory for government employees at the state and local levels too.

Technically, it's categorized as a "personality disorder", but at the extreme end where Trump resides, it's akin to mental illness.

He is literally incapable of controlling his emotional reactions, which are basically just ego defenses. All of his energy is focused on propping up his self-image as the greatest in everything. That's not just the bombast of a con artist; he really believes this. Any threat to that self-image has to be eliminated, and any event that casts doubt on his exceptional abilities much be reworked into a more acceptable reality: people are wrong, people are lying, people are out to get him because they are jealous.

It's that recasting of reality that makes him so dangerous in a position of power. He is incapable of understanding facts that do no support his limited world-view in which he is the hero, and he will fight like a cornered rat to preserve his view.

He's also uninterested in anything that is not about himself. He is the center of the universe and everyone else is part of the audience. They are useful only to the degree that they show their adoration of him.

I hold the people who support him as accountable. He is unfit for the presidency, but they are either unwilling to face that fact or they think he can be manipulated. Trump really can't help being himself, but everyone around him could make the decision to stop treating him like a sane person.

During some of his more insane rants. There were some who thought Omarosa had tapes to back up some of her assertions and maybe she does. Perhaps saving them for the perfect moment to release them?

I’m not sure what is the correct psychological term for what is wrong with him. So many terms have been used to try to pin down the problem. Malignant Narcissist seems to fit nicely.

I will be so glad (and I live in hope) to finally know why so many people who know more than we do about how crazy he is choose to do nothing —putting all of us at risk. It will be the most important story since our nation was founded, I truly believe. We are teetering on collapse and nothing is done. All I want to know is WHY?

Like perhaps recordings. But surely she’d have released them by now if she had them. Unless....he has something on her and she can’t let the cat out of the bag. At least not now. Seems like everyone that knows the inside story kind of dummies up after a while. Omarosa seemed like she was going to come out guns blazing after tRump. After the initial bang, not much has happened. So maybe they did get to her, too.

You can’t make this sh*t up. Better than fiction and 1000 times more scary.
