My nightmare scenario regarding Trump

Impeachment proceeds slowly and Trump is still in power after November 2020.

He loses the election.

Grants pardons to everyone around him including Pence.

Trump resigns, Pence assumes power.

Pence pardons Trump and then resigns.

If impeachment proceeds quickly, then all that changes is the timing of when pardons start raining down like skittles.

Because frankly, the disaster that has befallen this country will not change much with Trump in or out of jail. It is just a matter of revenge and defanging one head of the monster.

The issue is whether we take the Presidency in 2020. And we need the Senate to make any real progress in beginning to fix the damage. But if we don't get the Presidency, nothing else will matter. Nothing. (Extremely unlikely exception: someone sane like Weld wins the GOP nom ...they'll still be conservative but they might save what's left of the core of the country.)
