North's story was that he had a change jar or change box where he put his spare coin every day, and it was that money he used to buy a vehicle (as I recall, it was a nice pick up), not money he had skimmed from somewhere else like literally every person on the planet thought.

A reporter did an analysis of the reported purchase price and the amount of change that would be required based on the proportions of coins then in circulation. The reporter estimated the change box would have weighed half a ton or more. That is, North's story was 100% bullshit.

The National Rifle Association’s president Oliver North has been ousted by the organization’s board after an alleged extortion scheme within the group’s highest-ranking officials came to light Friday.

The NRA’s chief executive Wayne LaPierre wrote a letter to the board Thursday alleging that North was trying to remove him from the group by threatening to release to the board “damaging” information about LaPierre. On Saturday morning, Richard Childress, a vice president at the NRA, read a statement from North announcing and explaining his departure.

“Please know I hoped to be with you today as NRA president endorsed for reelection,” North wrote. “I’m now informed that will not happen.”

North continued his resignation letter by saying he believes the NRA should establish a committee to review the organizations finances, which he said constitutes a “clear crisis” that “needs to be dealt with” if the NRA wants to continue to be a viable organization
