If our eventual nominee is someone other than Amy Klobuchar and she is picked as VP, and we win.......
(Not an entirely implausible scenario, is it?)
The Democratic Governor of Minnesota then picks the interim Senator until the next election is held. If he should name Al Franken to fill the seat, well then the only question would be if Al would want it. As things stand now, I doubt he would listen, but if he were to receive a thundering deluge of popular (not media, but real people, especially if they're form Minnesota) support, maybe, just maybe, he'd do it. He would have to hold his nose and work again with Democratic Senators who trashed him, and that would not be a few, including Warren, Sanders, Harris, Gillibrand, Booker, Brown, Baldwin and the rest.
But I know a LOT of people who would love to see him back in the Senate, have his voice championing us again, and SO much much more eloquently than those who urged him to leave. I'll bet a LOT of Minnesotans feel the same way.

(54,508 posts)But I don't think he would run on his own initiative. I haven't asked him directly, and wouldn't. Too hypothetical at this point, anyway. But IF the opening occurs, and IF he is selected to fill it....well THAT is something he might not turn down, and could be something he might follow up with. It would depend on the reception he got from his fellow Democratic Senators, but I'm betting that most of them would be glad to have him back, Gillibrand excepted.

(10,437 posts)thought this would work out for her some how. Can't wait till she is gone from the primary field. Until she can apologize to franken, she is a permanent nobody.

(2,612 posts)A majority of voters think the Senate Ethics Committee should investigate Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.), and half think Franken should resign from the Senate, according to a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll.
The poll was conducted after radio personality Leeann Tweeden alleged that Franken groped her in 2006, prior to his Senate tenure but before a second woman, Lindsay Menz, said that Franken touched her inappropriately while he was a senator in 2010. Still, 66 percent of voters said the ethics panel should probe Frankens conduct, while only 15 percent think the committee should not look into the matter.
Fully 50 percent of voters think Franken, who has served in the Senate since 2009, should resign, and 22 percent think he should not resign.

(54,508 posts)And more time back in Minnesota. He still enjoys immense popularity there and likes being among friends, although he still has quite a few close ones in Washington. As for being in the public limelight, some people are addicted to that. He is not one of them.

(54,508 posts)One DU member ran into him in a bagel shop in Minnesota recently. Not seeking out media attention is not the same as hiding. Bill Clinton has been having a great time playing with his grandchildren lately. You havent seen him talk about it on Colbert, but he isnt in hiding either. We have no right to dictate these peoples schedules.

DFW
(54,508 posts)You'd have to look up his appearances, and I'll bet you can't cite his last one without looking it up. Neither Bill Clinton nor Al are appearing in the media regularly, and definitely not on the talk shows, and Clinton is a former two term president. Obviously he is more visible. But Bush II and Cheney are keeping rather quiet, too, and no one is accusing them of hiding. Apparently Al still has a few people still obsessed with his every move, but he is not one of them, either.

(6,143 posts)Its not about constantly seeking the limelight either. But as many here have stated Franken was a great voice. But I cant recall a single appearance that hes made since he resigned. Im just wondering why.

Wow, I thought it was just the Republicans that were constantly in a bad mood.
