Alabama Man Who Noticed Elderly Woman Eating Alone Invited Her To Dine With Him And His Friends

Alabama Man Who Noticed Elderly Woman Eating Alone Invited Her To Dine With Him And His Friends
By Breanna Edwards · April 24, 2019

It often doesn’t take a lot to be kind to something, and Jamario Howard and his friends proved that when they invited an elderly woman they saw eating alone to dine with them at a restaurant last week.

Last Thursday, Howard posted about the encounter with the woman while dining out with three friends at an eatery called Brads in Oxford, Alabama.

“After us sitting there a while waiting on our food I noticed an elderly woman sitting alone. My exact thoughts was “dang I’d hate to have to eat alone,” Howard wrote. “So after thinking about it a minute I walked over to her and asked if I could sit with her.”

This is wonderful. Isolation/loneliness is an epidemic among America's elderly. LonePirate Apr 2019 #1

We ate there every week, and the waitresses/owners always said "Hi Mr. & Mrs Bill" when we arrived.. These days, I cook for myself or do take out..

The combinations I come up with are odd.. now that I do not have to cook meals at regular times (he was diabetic) and to a specificity, I often have weird food..

One day I had, in no particular order.. raw cauliflower & dip.. a peach, and apple.. some rice with some leftover chili I had frozen. and cinnamon toast at 3 AM..

Cooking for one is a drag..

but I longed for Chinese buffet. My husband and I would go for lunch a couple times a month. I go other places with family or friends, but no one else likes Chinese the way I do. So after about a year, I went to lunch there by myself. Now I go every once in awhile.

It does suck to cook for one. But making the food we liked helps make it tolerable. I think about the good times we had. And I make enough for leftovers. I realized that I do like eating what I want when I want. Our daughter who lives locally is a renal dietitian, and she takes about her work often enough to remind me to eat healthy as much as I can

Take care of yourself SoCalDem. Love never ends. It just changes from water to mist

I worked in a restaurant for years. One elderly man came in a few times a week. He told me "I just need to get away from the wife sometimes, and she is glad to be home alone without me there. It's what keeps us together for 50 years."

"A stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet"

What did they have to talk about? Well, they had their whole lives to catch up on.

But, please, to anyone who sees me eating alone and reading my tablet, I assure you I’m perfectly fine by myself.
