Donald and Melania Trumps summer travel plans are taking shape and they will include a long-delayed state visit to London in June. The Washington Post reports that the customary stay at Buckingham Palace during the 3-day visit will not be extended to the couple, even though the Obamas and George W. Bush were hosted there. THE QUEEN has bigger balls than I do when it comes to house guests. The last time my mother-in-law came to visit, I considered several elaborate ruses to avoid having her stay with us, but lost my nerve as I was contemplating buying a jar of bedbugs off of eBay. But The Queen dont give a fwuck. Suddenly, Buckingham Palace is undergoing renovations so they cant stay there. I see you Lizzy. Well played, Your Highness.
Its too bad because it sounds like Donny was looking forward to it. He probably had plans on taking a tinkle on whatever bed Barack Obama slept in. According to the Washington Post:
During discussions about the upcoming trip, British officials informed administration officials that Trump would not be able to stay at Buckingham Palace as is often the custom for state visits because it is still undergoing renovations and only a few rooms were available. The administration replied that this was no problem; they could make just a few rooms work. But the British ultimately explained that they did not feel that they could give the president the proper treatment with the palace being renovated.
Luckily for the Trumps, theres a moderately well-reviewed La Quinta Inn not far from the palace. If that doesnt suit their needs, the Washington Post says they will probably stay at the Winfield House, the home of the United States Ambassador. Its where he and Melania stayed/hid out last time they were in London. And if things go pear shaped back at home (fingers crossed), Donald can always hole out there for the next decade and ride it out like Julian Assange (via WAPO):
Trumps 2018 visit was downgraded from a state visit to a working visit by May. Working visits are generally more low-key although the visit still caused widespread protests. During his first trip to the Britain as president, Trump was strategically kept away from London, the capital, where thousands of protesters marched and sang in the streets.

(23,000 posts)Sa-weet !!! The Brits are historically known for being pretty good judges of character, and genuinely good people. In POW Camps in WW2 they were overwhelmingly voted in to take care of things on behalf of the others.
Grateful for them. And Canada, and France, and Germany, and the list goes on. SO many good relationships we've built over the years.

(18,758 posts)Gold gold, gold! Donnie likes his gold! I think that's one of the reasons why he loves Russia so much. The Kremlin is practically made of gold (at least the interior). I imagine his idea for a Russian hotel would include more gold than the Kremlin, since he can't stand being "second" to anyone about anything. What an asshole.

(79,267 posts)The Queen will welcome Donald Trump to Britain by sending Prince Philip to pick him up from the airport.
Mr Trump will make his first official state visit to the UK in June, staying with Her Majesty, having talks at Downing Street and taking part in D-Day commemorations (so long as its not raining).
It has been revealed that the Queen has a cunning plan to keep Mr Trump occupied sending her husband out in his Range Rover to pick the President up from Heathrow.
A Royal insider said: Her Majesty was furious when Philip overturned his car near Sandringham after colliding with a common person in a Kia earlier this year.
She ordered Philip, 96, to stay off the road, much to his disgust. But news that Mr Trump is arriving has given her a change of heart.
Now she wants Philip to drive round and pick him up.
Shes claiming this will make Mr Trump feel welcome, but the Royal household cant help wondering that she has an ulterior motive.
Royal watchers will be keen to see how Her Majesty and Mr Trump get along after some curious body language when he dropped by last summer on an official (but not state) visit.

(28,935 posts)Some Saudi prince made a visit to England and was taken to Belmoral in Scotland to meet Her Maj. He was offered a tour of the estate and he accepted. While he was waiting in a Land Rover, out comes the former Sublieutenant and ambulance driver, Elizabeth Windsor, all head scarf, tweeds and wellies and hopped in the pilot's chair. She gave him a complete white knuckle tour of the family holdings with the unspoken subtext of "Up yours git, women can drive".
She has mastered the art of the subtle blink and you'll miss it slam dunk.
