Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsNeither Madame Speaker nor any of the House's Democratic committee chairmen have yet asked for
any advice from me, but just in case they get around to it, I've given some thought to what I may say.
I would urge them to abandon any residual hope that Trump is EVER going to behave like anything but a spoiled-rotten rich kid who feels absolutely entitled to get his way about EVERYTHING. His affinity for the world's ruthless dictators is fueled by his transparent envy of their total power over the lives of their "subjects". He expects--- yes, he does---to be worshipped and feared as they are.
So---forget about any investigative approach that does not amount to FORCING the whiny, nasty, kicking-and-screaming Donny to do what integrity and common decency---not to mention the law---would cause anyone else to do. For example, stop "requesting" documents or testimony. LEAD with subpoenas and the seek arrests and contempt penalties the very hour when the compliance deadline expires.
And, in response to across the board defiance and disrespect for Congressional authority, let's review all of the things the House does to assist the White House---and withhold the assistance WHENEVER doing so will not endanger or harm ordinary citizens. Obviously, appropriations would seem to offer several opportunities to---figuratively speaking---smack Trump upside the head.
A simple rule to follow might be "If Trump or his party want it, oppose it". And, yes, of course, I realize that this is "obstruction" of the same kind that we criticized the Republicans for pursuing. And, if I recall correctly, our criticisms didn't even slow down the Trumpies. So, yes, let's "get down on their level" and fight them in the sewers where they've chosen to reside.
"Nice", "civil", and "respectful", when not reciprocated, are a recipe for defeat.

(4,066 posts)Perhaps she's allowing him all the rope he needs. At the end of all his antics to delay and distract the only choice left will be impeachment. Perhaps she's just letting him push the whole thing there by his actions.

(25,428 posts)Plus, a bunch of stuff that we are no doubt unaware of.
As for forcing him to do anything, impeachment isn't a magic wand that is suddenly going to make him cooperate. Pelosi, et al, will have to deal with the obstruction, impeachment or no.

(63,801 posts)chaos. He may just be goading Pelosi to do something she does not want to do. This POS will never STFU about Democrats who want to obey the laws. He is just going over the edge. Hold those who don't obey with these committee's on contempt charges.

(15,067 posts)I especially like the part about acting immediately on blown off subpoenas. Throw Steve Mnuch-bag in jail today! And all of them!

No one is going to jail for these bastard that run the swamp, they hate them as much as we do.

(90,304 posts)... give people a choice; jail or the law.
Cut Mnchin (sp) off at the knees, see how long people follow him after a person spends a session or two in the slammer.
They wont follow Red Don's crew, they don't even like them

(15,067 posts)This is all beyond scary! No more Nice Guy behavior by the Dems in Congress. And now this morning, Fat Donnie thinks the Supreme Court will save him from impeachment. I would send him a copy of the Constitution, but I don't think he can read it.

(25,816 posts)Republicans to play by the rules, to compromise, to meet him half way. And they never did.
We are seeing the same thing now. Republicans who don't give a flying fuck about anything except their own personal gain. Things like common decency or the common good are completely alien concepts to them. They don't care how many get hurt, how many go hungry, how many sleep outside. They only care about their tax cuts, their wealth. They have NEVER worked in a homeless shelter, or talked to a Vet completely undone by what they've been through. Worse yet, if you were to take them to a homeless shelter, sit them down with a vet, they wouldn't care, wouldn't understand the underlying humanity.
And still, they claim to be Christians.
