(54,770 posts)of a losing primary candidate not voting or voting for Stein or even trump, Clinton would be Prez and GOPers would be blaming someone for her election.

(8,908 posts)The last two years have been so absurd I stopped taking seriously anyone who is stupid enough to go along with this nonsense. Personally I gave up on them after p grabber's disgraceful performance in Helsinki. I don't even discuss it with them anymore, I can't get that time back and they are a waste of it. They can take this imbecile president and his lies and their hats and guns and disingenuous flag waving and stuff it, I just don't care anything about them anymore. I am disgusted.

(5,499 posts)It really started with Nixon. And he was liberal compared to today's Republicans. But he started the move to the right. And that was a direct result of the civil rights act. The Republicans realized the could achieve success by appealing to white racists. Reagan seized on this and added the anti-choice group (many of whom are also white racists). White union workers voted for him, even though he started us down the path to weakening unions. We had a small reprieve with Clinton. Then W opened the floodgates. Openly lying to get us into a war with Iraq and a massive increase in presidential powers thanks to Uncle Dick. All the while still being the party of white racists and anti-choicers. Obama gave us a major reprieve although his presidency seemed to make the white racists and anti-choicers double down to the point that they were willing to make a deal with the devil to win the presidency. And as we all know, once you make a deal with the devil you can never go back. That's how we got here.

(53,741 posts)trump will have free reign to defy Congress on whatever he wants to do. You can't have a democracy with a dictator at the top.

This is what my DH has been saying. Who's going to enforce these subpoenas since the courts are stacked with corrupt judges.
Our hope again lies with Mueller who will testify if subpoenaed - he can reveal to Congressional Dems what's in the entire report, even redacted parts in closed hearings.
All stops must be pulled out.
Trump will use every tactic he can to stay in office and out of prison. I wonder if the general public realizes how much real and intimate danger our democracy is in.

(32,579 posts)Chump is way too old, stupid and weak to ever become a dictator. His personality defects alone would disqualify him from becoming one. A dictator in the making would be somebody in his late 40s or early 50s, healthy, and vastly cunning. The right-wingers are using Chump to skew our democratic system, I'll agree. Maybe they think another younger, smarter guy will step in and take over when Chump is done, I couldn't guess. But they had to realize that with all of his failures and weaknesses, Chump would spiral out of control on his own.
The right-wingers tried the same thing with Ronald Reagan, setting him up as the public presidential figure, while pulling the strings in secret behind the scenes. And it worked for a while too. But Reagan was too old, started going senile, and couldn't remember his lines. His wife Nancy had to stand by his side and tell him what to do or say next. The media reporters were more polite in those days, and they kept it quiet for the most part.
David Cay Johnston probably knows more facts about Donald Chump than anyone in the US, save Robert Mueller. But I can't go along with him on this.
