I had what I was pretty sure was a common fungal infection. I was going to try to treat it myself, but I figured since I am not a medical professional, I should have it looked at for the following reasons:
1) Perhaps I needed a prescription strength medicine, and...
2) I wanted to make sure that I was not developing a secondary infection.
The nurse that checked me in took my vitals. All was normal except for a very slight fever. I described my problem in detail to the nurse. She told me that the nurse practitioner would be right in.
The guy came in and said "I understand you have..." then he repeated exactly what I told the nurse.
"That's right", I said.
He then explained in detail what he was going to prescribe, and how and when to use the medicine. I listened closely and repeated the instructions back to him. He confirmed the instructions and then said he would call it into the pharmacy. He told me to have a good night and started to walk out of the room.
I stopped him and said... "Uh...are you done"? He said he was done, and asked me if I had another question.
I said "Are you going to look at it"?
He said "I wasn't going to...do you want me to"?
Um, yeah, I do.
So he did. And he said it was "probably" what he diagnosed it was before looking at it.
I walked out of there shaking my head, wondering how he can bill my insurance for an office visit without a hands-on, eyes-on examination. He was going by my description...the description of an average schmuck patient, without wanting to even perform a cursory examination. He also did not ask me if I had any other symptoms, etc.
I was flummoxed. I was flabbergasted. I was corn-fused. And now that I'm typing this out, I'm pissed off. I mean...what the fuck???
