I applaud every, single person who wants to donate to the restoration of Notre Dame.

From what I've read, there are wealthy, European Entrepreneurs who have already pledged HUNDREDS of millions to that cause. I doubt Notre Dame is going to be lacking funds.

If you want to donate, please donate. But think of the three churches in LA and other local causes first please.

I don't say this because of any ill will toward France, Catholics, etc. Just saying it with the thought charity begins at home.

It's in the eye of the beholder. Some may not feel any sense of home based on geography.

When it comes to these things terms like "home" and "family" are very relative terms. So many of us define those in different ways.

My desire was to point out that, while the restoration of Notre Dame is worthwhile, there are very, very many worthwhile purposes.

As the ancient Knight in the Indiana Jones movie suggested: "Choose Wisely"

Choosing wisely in that case meant not choosing the "shiny" thing. Today, Notre Dame is the "shiny" thing/cause. Tomorrow, your neighborhood, our country, your "family" will all still be there and still be as dull, non-shiny, and in need as they were yesterday. Before Notre Dame burned.

In which corner of the world will your efforts be best spent cleaning up ruins and ashes for those closest to you? Paris? Or somewhere else nearer to you? Whether "nearer" means distance or connection.

3. I disagree with the geographical sentiment. Caring should have no boundaries.

I do however think it would be nice if our money is sent to those who need it far more, the black churches that were destroyed by arson last week.
