I truly believe Trump and his supporters are an existential threat to our nation.

At the present time, they are being saved by an economy that has been primed by huge taxcuts, a hot stock market, and by slashing regulations on big businesses.

In my opinion, they believe they are above the laws of this country. They are willing to lie, cheat, or steal to protect their power.

They have hired an Attorney General that is willing to do their bidding, instead of working for the American people. Everyone thought he was going to release the Mueller Record either today or in the next couple of days. Now, he announces that it will be sent to Congress, heavily redacted, as Congress is going on a two-week Easter vacation. I have little doubt but that the Trump team requested he do that as a way of delaying the process and giving them more time to sell their propaganda to the American people.

But, I also believe that our Congress and our Courts will prevail. Today, it was announced that Congress has subpoenaed records from Deutsche Bank, the official lender for Mr Trump. No doubt, Mr Trump will attempt to intercept this process, either by twisting the arms of Deutsche Bank or by taking it to Court. Just as he is very busy fighting to keep Congress from getting his tax records.

In the end, they will fail and the people and our laws will prevail. But, we are fighting a battle for the life of our democracy and it should not be minimized. They want a dictatorship, instead of a democracy. We will win this struggle.

few convictions by Mueller and team, all within two years of him beginning his work. Congress, as slow as it is, is moving to obtain financial records of various entities, the Mueller report (and Mueller himself to testify too).

What really gets me in all of this...is that if rump is so innocent as he claims he is, then why fight? Why resist? Why not provide tax returns? Why not provide the Mueller report in full?

And don't give us the ongoing BS excuses either. Don't insult our intelligence (sarah sanders is one of the worst).

I, myself, an tax auditor by education would volunteer my services to my Congressperson if they needed help. I'm sure tons of us here in DU land would volunteer too, in a heartbeat, if asked. But the Congress, in its infinite wisdom can do as any normal rational person would do, go out and hire an accountant firm to analyze the returns.

but I'm losing hope.

He's far worse than Nixon, who, at very least wasn't in debt to a hostile foreign government and who wasn't actively trying to destroy the entire nation. (I can't believe I'm saying nice-ish things about Nixon.)

I just keep telling myself we're in the second act of the movie where all seems lost and eventually, it will turn around. It is working less and less every day that this goes on.

3. We can't be too optimistic

I think optimism is a trait found in many Americans, but this is not a time for us to be too optimistic that things will eventually turn around. There is lasting damage being wrought by this incredibly corrupt administration. The courts, especially the Supreme Court, chiefly in the forefront of that damage. Even more incredible is the fact that a nitwit con man has effectively taken control of the Federal Judicial system.
Many of us are united by our optimism, but that is no excuse to simply wait this out in the hope that the aforementioned Judicial system will prevail. It is increasingly likely that it will not, leaving any structural cures to the corruption in the hands of the media (good luck with that) or mass participation in the both the electoral process and redress to the people (good luck with that also).
I believe that attrition offers us the best hope for the future - the literal dying off of the privileged older white men that yes, incredibly, still run this country.
But attrition takes time, and of that time runs into a very possible second term for the #IPOTUS, we could be in for the end of the American democracy that many of us here grew up on.
