Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsTo my dismay, Air Force One passed over my house on the
way to the MSP airport. It's an unusual approach pattern for MSP, but I heard a very loud plane and went outside. Sure enough, there was AF1, a 747, only about 2000' above my home. Below minimums, I'm sure, but it's Air Force One, after all.
So, that happened. I wonder if it will use the same route on departure. It seems sort of natural that that plane would use alternative approach patterns to avoid other air traffic. I've only seen a very few large jets pass over on that route. Business jets do it all the time, but they're approaching KSTP, the downtown airport.
Interesting. I gave the plane the finger, but I doubt Trump noticed.

(16,646 posts)Minimum altitude over a populated area. It's actually quite common for AF1 to do long and low approaches. It's a publicity thing. And yeah, it's gonna be noisy. Concord was even worse. I think "pattern altitude" is 1500 if I remember correctly.

(29,779 posts)was really loud but we really couldnt see it......I wonder if thats what it was. We get those huge tankers doing touch and goes at our La Crosse airport, and AF 1 landed when President Clinton came to La Crosse. Wonder if it was the orange blob.

(146,351 posts)noon, heading NNW, I think. It landed right at 12:30. It could have been one leg of the approach, for sure. I'm in the northeast corner of St. Paul. It's not a normal flight path, though, for MSP, but I could see them using it to stay out of normal approach patterns.
