There is always the intellectual exercise of imagining what would the right say about Obama if he did something Trump just did (pick your example). They went to full alert when Obama wore a tan suit. What if Obama told someone to break the law and he'd pardon them?
Taken on the whole, all those instances combined, isn't the Trump presidency the perfect example of what "white privilege" means? He can do anything he wants without fear of consequences. The previous president could barely sneeze without consequences. That is, on the whole, the comparison between Obama and Trump presidencies is the full on, text book example of what 'white privilege' means.
I understand what you are trying to get at, but the Trump presidency and the Republican reaction to it is not an example of white privilege. Trump's presidency is an example of Republican privilege. The Republicans treated President Bill Clinton similarly to how they treated President Barack Obama. If Hillary Clinton had made it to the White House, Republicans would have treated her just as bad, if not worst, as they treated President Obama. Remember, Republicans, when they thought Hillary Clinton was going to make it to the White House, were threatening to keep the Supreme Court seat vacant until Democrats won back the Senate, or until Hillary Clinton left office. They were also threatening to lead multiple investigations into her during her time in office.
The Republicans let Donald Trump get away with the stuff they let him get away with because he is a Republican. If a Democrat were in the White House and Republicans had been in control of Congress during the first two years of that Democrats time in office they likely would have attempted to impeach that person just for being in office. If a Democrat, any Democrat, had done what Donald Trump did and Republicans were in control of Congress, Republican would have likely impeached that person by now and might have tried to impeach the Vice President.

Obama alsoi would probably not have survived a Lewinsky type thing. while Clinton was impeached he still had support of the public.

(9,350 posts)Justin Fairfax has been accused of rape by two women, but is still Lt. Governor of Virginia. Clarence Thomas is on the Supreme Court. Herman Cain is not qualified to be on the Federal Reserve Board. Granted, Stephen Moore is likely no more qualified to be on the Reserve Board than Cain and is likely getting less criticism. Clinton only survived the Lewinsky scandal because there were enough Democratic votes in the Senate to prevent him from being voted out of office. Also, Republicans did not want to give Al Gore a chance to get a head start at the presidency shortly before going into a presidential campaign.
The way Republicans are treating Donald Trump is not an example of white privilege. It is an example of Republicans not caring when one of their own does something wrong. If Donald Trump had been black Republicans would be treating him the same way. If a white Democrat had been elected President they would have treated him the same way the treated President Obama.
