He thinks that's a threat??? Well, fuck that punk ass. We'll take all of them and then he and his shitball family can get right the hell out. I'm plenty sure each and every one of those immigrants would bring more to the fabric of the city than his clan of thieves ever has.
edit:you know I'm not shy about cussing, but this trump and his ilk have destroyed my filter. I can't speak of, or about him/them, in reasonable language anymore.
re-re-re edit:removed the b word.. sorry about that

(32,102 posts)I saw him on one of the TVs at the gym this morning. He was on the Propaganda Channel, claiming that Trump "called the Democrats' bluff" on the issue. That's some bluff-calling, eh? I can't wait until they hear the replies from the various mayors, who remind us all that cities have no walls, and that these people will be free to leave at their will.

(9,426 posts)is not behind this flood of refugees? Seems strange that suddenly they are coming in caravans towards the US border. Is there a publication in their countries encouraging them with promises of some sort? I would not put it past tRump and his enablers doing that, to cause problems. I do not know what their agenda would be, but I am suspicious.

(17,276 posts)What does scare us? A president and federal government that would seek to weaponize a law enforcement agency to punish perceived political enemies. A would-be despot who thinks the rule of law does not apply to him.
On Friday, Trump took to Twitter to confirm a Post report that the White House wants to place detained immigrants in so-called sanctuary cities represented by Democrats.
In doing so, he trotted out his favorite playbook: He is demonizing immigrants and refugees to incite fear and to distract the American public from his own failures. Despite his party having control of the whole federal government for two years, Trump has utterly failed to fix our immigration system, to provide real opportunity for middle America or to improve the lives of the Americans in the places that supported him.

(32,908 posts)We have a lot of courses and country clubs closing up here in Pennsylvania. Way too many of them compared to who's playing golf now. It seems the properties are worth a lot more to the developers than they are to the golfers.
By the way we still have LOTS of room in Pennsylvania, and immigrants would be welcome here. I can't speak for all of our cities but Pittsburgh has many thriving immigrant communities and neighborhoods.

(927 posts)Live in Seattle metro area where we have a tremendous homeless problem. Politicians throwing millions of dollars at a problem that is difficult to solve.
Much rather see money spent on supporting refugees escaping from drug cartels and systemic corruption in the hopes of a better life.

(1,279 posts)After the army, I was homeless for almost three years. I had been diagnosed in the army as schizoid after one visit to the psychiatrist. I enjoyed being homeless, living where I wanted. The late 60s was a much better time to be homeless. I am just saying that there are many reasons people are homeless. This makes finding the ones that really need help difficult.

(759 posts)waitresses. Who will mow the lawns? Who will be elderly caretakers? When immigrants have a chance they go to school to become nurses and teachers, start businesses and grow the economy.
I grew up in NYC, learned Emma Lazarus' poem when I was YOUNG, and have ALWAYS thought of us this way.

(2,772 posts)There was a post on the Rec List written by someone who explained why she thought the tactic of sending those at the border to sanctuary cities might be part of a Trump/Miller plan to urge MAGA creatures to attack people in those cities. It got lots of attention. It was, without question, CT. It was convincingly laid out. Im sorry I dont have the link. After I post, Ill try to include it on edit.
The post, though, does make me look at the current open-armed welcome of the sanctuary cities with a somewhat fearful eye. Welcome is the proper response. I just hope that the mayors and governors involved have plans for a situation in which the federal government (Trump and Miller) overwhelm the cities and their support systems and services. In a normal pre-2017 America, agencies would work together to address an issue. Now the federal government is looking to harm large parts of the population.
Preparations should be made.

(42,004 posts)It's called Seattle is Dying and uses all the stagecraft they have to depict homelessness in Seattle as dangerous, disgusting and destructive. Granted we have a real problem, but they offer nothing by way of helpful solution. I can't help but wonder if some of this is to stoke fear of the poor, the needy, those that "socialism" would help. I think the refugee is put in this same category and they're trying to destroy any hint of compassion we might have.
Let them come.

(18,014 posts)Maybe that's the problem. I'm trying to apply reasoning to the actions of racist sociopaths. So, he's going to send them to the cities they were most likely head for anyway and may already have family there. Many have growing economies and need the help. And that's a way to punish who? how? Is this a case of him actually believing his own bullshit that they're all drug runners and murderers?

(37,648 posts)Costs to provide food assistance and other aid, a large influx of low-skilled workers all at once might impact the employment of low-skilled New York citizen workers. It's asking a lot to take in a lot of illegal immigrants all at once. (Of course, Trump means also the criminal aspect, that there would be a spike in crimes. Like gangstas coming in with tattoos and ARs and knives.)
But if New Yorkers are willing to take that on, more power to them. (I'm pretty sure my red state won't be volunteering for that.)
Sounds like Trump is getting tired of the situation and is frustrated with the handling requirements and the cost. He's gotten himself into a quagmire.
