This is why she was smart to tamp down impeachment suggestions. And still people second guess her.

(3,344 posts)Some threads tonight. Jesus Christ.
Nancy is completely wrong. She says impeachment is pointless unless Republicans agree. It's fucking ridiculous.

(4,147 posts)To demand impeachment without the Senate is to DRIVE THE FUCKING GET AWAY CAR FOR THE TRAITORS.
The Russian infiltration and HACK into the 2016 election is the biggest story of our lifetime. Impeaching him without the votes on the side that does the convicting will only get him off for his crimes.

(47,602 posts)I have to say that I've been really impressed with the Democrats we have in DC right now, especially in the House. Smart, focused, and dedicated. I wouldn't want to be up against them!

(1,977 posts)I think she is absolutely brilliant and has a calm and metered reaoonse that we desperately need. I honestly think she is a treasure that doesnt get nearly the respect that she deserves. Ashamedly I used to question her. She is a very good leader for us at a very important time.

(90,364 posts)... so anything outside of upholding rule of law is moot point.

(1,977 posts)Oh I dont think she knows either. But I also dont think she is stupid enough to get catfished into giving a soundbyte that turns out really bad. Sure there are some democrats that will disagree with her but had she come out saying absolutely we are going to impeach him regardless of the mueller report well that would have been foolish to do. In the end I think there is a very good chance yet that we may see an impeachment yet. All depends on what the other investigations turn up.

(54,770 posts)we already knew or reasonably suspected. Not enough GOPer Senators and/or trump supporters even cared about any of that. Impeachment would have been another failure in the end.
We need to concentrate on beating trump, or a substitute, in 2020.
Still some small hope report is more damning than it seems at the moment.

(1,977 posts)I am saying that she said she DIDNT know that. And because she knew that she didnt know that for sure that she couldnt make the statement that we would move to impeach based on that. We all WANT him to be removed. We would all LOVE for that to happen. Sometimes our passion for something makes us say things in the moment that work against our goals in the end. She is brilliant for not succumbing to that.

(15,265 posts)Administration and then preemptively declared that " trump was not worth impeaching," I might agree with you.
If a President has committed impeachable offenses the house has a constututional obligation to protect the people. It not a flip a coin choice or a political one. Impeachment is a protection for the people against the abuse of power and it apparently doesn't exist anymore. This is not some crooked bill being worked in back rooms. "Well we dont have the votes." That is irrelevant. The House has an obligation to bring Article of impeachment against this cretin if he is found to have committed Impeachable offenses. tRump is exactly the kind of tyrant that the founding fathers were worried about when the created the mechanism

(90,364 posts)... so there's never a "political" time for impeachment anymore.
It's one of the reasons where there was the fairness docturine so FAUX News networks can't become political mouth pieces.

(29,722 posts)I too felt like vomiting from the news. This place may help soothe you; do understand that we (DU) has been a direct target and during time of great distress, we attract lots of trolls and bots. Please don't be offended; we're mostly crazy and our hair has been on fire so long that our eyes are almost bulging.
Welcome! My you find comfort here.

(1,977 posts)Offering oppinions to other peoples opinions is what its all about so thats fair. I think that piece is pretty far fetched given republicans needed absolutely no help from her at all to block an impeachment in the senate. But I guess thats just a difference in opinion.
TwilightZone
(25,485 posts)The Republicans already had "veto power". It's called enough votes to block a conviction.
The assertion that we should impeach, especially now, when it is 100% doomed to failure is remarkably misguided. I have no idea why so many people think we should do it anyway. Continue the investigations and let the SDNY and the AGs do their jobs.

SlogginThroughIt
(1,977 posts)But she said if there is evidence that led to it that impeachment was an option. That is smart. On the other hand we had a freshmen Rep saying Were going to impeach the mother fucker -for the record I applauded her saying that in her position. It showed fire and passion and as a freshmen rep who likely won fir having that stance I think thats just fine. As a leader for the party whose words reflect upon all of our members needing to be re-elected... Yes... In fact quite smart of her. Indeed!

(11,949 posts)There will be no conviction in the Senate. And most of our new members of the House are from republican leaning districts. They are moderates. There is no assurance we could even impeach.
There is one way to defeat republicans and Trump. Through elections. Many of us have known that from the git-go.
Too many DU members believe that investigators will solve our problems. Nancy knows better.

(21,809 posts)I'd rather we the voters kick the crap out of the GOP in the elections of 2019 and 2020 so that when Trump is forced to leave office in January 2021. . .BANG!. . .BUSTED !! Off to the SDNY for indictment and trial - for starters.
The state courts can then have him and his family - or whatever's left.
