It's a "coming to Jesus" moment for the GOP...

In full public view, they get to show the nation what they stand for?

Do they stand for law and order or do they stand for criminality and lies?

When they look in the mirror, will they do what they think is right, or will they do what they think will be the most acceptable with their base?

That is their choice.

Will they stand with most of America or will they stand with the criminals within the GOP?

Trump has power over them only because of the rabid base, which was created and radicalized by the propaganda machine. GOPers want personal wealth and party power.

That "moment" has been ongoing for the past 2 years. To think they will get a conscience now is just wishful thinking. Jesus has come and gone my friend.

Trump is just a vehicle for them. They attack as a swarm, they defend as a swarm.

They have no conscience. They have no allegiances.

They exist only to remain in power and acquire wealth. They are the perfect ferangi.

So no, this isn't about trump. It's about the swarm. And right now the swarm surrounds trump.

they believe they are at war with an enemy that seeks to destroy their nation, and that enemy is us. They actually believe all their bullshit -- Ayn Rand, white supremacy, corporations are people and are good, the poor are poor because they are lazy, God selected Trump to "save the nation", greed is good, a woman's role is to have kids ... the list goes on and on.

But worse, believing all of those things, they are okay with thinning the herd. In fact, they see it as an inescapable solution (not unlike the final solution) to saving the nation, saving the world, and saving God's province. They are A-okay with American people dying here as a result of government policy/lack-of-policy because they see every American's place as a place of their own individual making. In short, the victim's are the bad guys in their view.

I genuinely believe that we have members of Congress (a large number of them), a President and a Cabinet who live and act in accord with this world view. In their view, the solution is our eradication, perhaps not physically but by eviscerating our power permanently.

To answer your question, no, they will not "stand with most of America" unless or until they feel personally threatened. If they do so, it will be out of -- and only out of -- selfish fear.

When it appeared that Donald Trump had a realistic chance of winning the nomination.

And they did nothing about it.

It doesn't matter the religion or ruler - most people abandon religion to follow what the ruler tells them to. The ancient Egyptians did for a new pharaoh, the Romans did for Constantine, the British did for Henry VIII, and so on.

It just tells me that the religious convictions of most people really aren't very strong. That is certainly true of American evangelicals.

like Collins and Murkowski will vote against Trump, that's it. This vote is way, way ahead of November 2020, and two-thirds of the Senate is not up for re-election then, anyway.

Even if there is a bare majority cobbled together to pass the resolution, it will not be enough to override a veto, and the issue lands back in Trump's lap. And there is so very much more to come between now and Election Day, some vote back in February 2019 will mean essentially nothing.

I can't think of any one of them who would peel away when it's time to vote. Only when they announce that they're leaving office or won't run again is there a slight chance. But even then they risk a lucrative retirement. Besides, who ever quits the mob?
