Poll: 33% of Kentucky voters approve of McConnell

Poll: 33% of Kentucky voters approve of McConnell
By Tal Axelrod - 02/21/19 02:55 PM EST

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) approval rating is underwater in Kentucky ahead of his reelection race next year, according to a new Public Policy Polling (PPP) survey released Thursday.

About 33 percent of registered Kentucky voters polled approve of the job McConnell is doing, while 56 percent disapprove and 11 percent are unsure. Additionally, 32 percent think McConnell “deserves to be reelected,” and 61 percent think it’s “time for someone new.”

The PPP poll was conducted on behalf of the Ditch Mitch Fund, an advocacy group that opposes McConnell. McConnell’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.

Who seems pretty solid. Former fighter pilot, and a FEMALE! I can’t remember her name, but she is highly respected. Hope she runs!

So, I'm not so sure he gives a damn anymore.

As bad as the 2018 Senate map was for Democrats, it's that bad and worse for Republicans in 2020. They're going to be defending 22 Senate seats, compared to 12 seats for Democrats. The 2018 wave just tickled Republican tootsies; the 2020 wave that's building is going to swamp that swamp. Republican triage is going to be parsed down to a gnat's eyelash. Is McConnell indispensable enough that the party is going to try to save his seat even if it looks like Democrats are going to take back the majority? Or do they leave him to fend for himself because he's carrying too much baggage?

The numbers from this poll (partisan as it is seeing as it was commissioned by the Ditch Mitch Fund) are horrible for an incumbent Senator. If other polls bear out McConnell's unpopularity, the national party is going to have to do some hard thinking.

He's "served" for a lifetime and fucked up our judiciary in unconscionable ways that we'll be decades recovering from.

I figure he'll ride off into the sunset feeling all wonderful about all the "good deeds" he's done.
