Florida mayor shoots at SWAT team while being arrested for dealing drugs: Hes lucky he isnt dead
A Florida mayor charged with illegally practicing medicine shot at police when they came to arrest him early Thursday morning.
The Tampa Bay Times reported that Port Richey Mayor Dale Massad was being served a warrant by a SWAT team at his home around 4:40 AM on Thursday when two shots were fired from within the house. Officers, the report noted, did not return fire.
Hes lucky hes not dead, Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said at a press conference following the incident. The sheriff added that the mayor may face multiple charges of attempted homicide on law enforcement officers, the Tampa Bay Times reported.
Tampas WTSP news station reported that during the press conference, Nocco accused the mayor of being a known drug user and dealer.

(11,730 posts)It's not luck it's Whiteness. Mayor or not, a Black man would have been riddled with bullets if he had shot at law enforcement serving a warrant.
I know that White people get hurt by police too and am not arguing that they get away with everything, but seriously, we have seen it numerous times where an unarmed Black person is gunned down and killed reaching for a wallet or running away, or playing in a playground, or holding an unloaded pellet gun at Walmart. We have also seen a White man armed with an AR-15 drunk and belligerent get talked down for an hour, a pair of White men actually shooting a pellet gun at people at WalMart, a man threatening police with a knife, and now this guy shooting while officers are serving a warrant, all of whom lived. Call it cherry picking, but I call it a frame of mind in law enforcement and society in general.
