I definitely feel closer to the feminine side of the human being than I do the male or the American idea of what a male is supposed to be. Just watch a beer commercial and youll see what I mean. Rolling Stone, 1992
I think rap music is the only vital form of music that has been introduced to music in a long time since punk rock. I would never do rap music. No. Theres just no sense in it. The people who do rap music do it just fine. Im usually offended by people like Vanilla Ice and stuff like that. The white man ripped off the black man long enough. They should leave rap music to the African-Americans because they do it so well and it is so vital to them. Billboard, 1991

(13,524 posts)after he was gone, and had only read of him maybe a little in Rolling Stone...was not on the net then...
But I will never forget how devastated I was hearing the news of his death - sitting in the car outside my parents house, and my dear mother had just gotten a terminal-cancer diagnosis - it was one of those moments youll never forget. That sort of proves to me that there is such a thing as a vibe, a spirit, chemistry, you know? Kurt put himself out there, and even such a distant person as myself knew that losing him was a really. bad. deal.
I love you, dear boy, happy birthday, please think of us now and then...we miss you something awful

(804 posts)The first time I heard a Nirvana song on the radio (1991), I realized he sounded exactly the way I felt. I didn't know the lyrics yet, but his voice perfectly expressed my rage and pain.
As I had just been released from a psychiatric hospital where I'd self-admitted for Major Depressive Disorder and suicidal ideation, his committing suicide later should not have come as a surprise to me but I've always been so sad that I made it out of the darkness, and he did not.
