CBSs Lara Logan Calls Media Mostly Liberal in Scorched Earth Interview: Im Committing Professional Suicide
In a recent interview, CBS News Foreign Correspondent Lara Logan critiqued the international liberal media while holding up outlets like Breitbart as the opposite side of the coin.
Logan spoke to retired Navy SEAL Mike Ritland about a variety of topics on Friday for his Mike Drop podcast (h/t Breitbart), and the conversation eventually turned towards her agreement with Ritland that the media everywhere is mostly liberal, not just the U.S. As Logan lamented that voter registration among journalists shows that the media is out of balance, she came with a metaphor to explain how she believes the press is tinged by sameness of opinion.
As she argued that media sources on the left and right regularly push their preferred narratives and do terrible things, Logan determined that the weight of the liberal media overwhelms the other side unless people actively seek outlets like Breitbart.
The discussion continued with Logan trashing news reports based on single, anonymous government sources, calling it an abandonment of journalistic standards.
Thats not journalism, thats horseshit, Logan said. Responsibility for fake news begins with us. We bear some responsibility for that, and were not taking ownership of that and addressing it. We just want to blame it all on somebody else.
Towards the end of the interview, Logan seemed to acknowledged that some will see her remarks as controversial, saying this interview is professional suicide for me.

(36,824 posts)I do remember her coverage of the Egyptian revolution in Tahrir Square, and the sexual assault she endured:
On 15 February 2011, CBS News released a statement that Logan had been beaten and sexually assaulted on 11 February, while covering the celebrations in Tahrir Square following Hosni Mubarak's resignation.[19] CBS 60 Minutes broadcast an interview with her about it on 1 May 2011; she said she was speaking out because of the prevalence of mass sexual assault in Egypt, and to break the silence about the sexual violence women reporters are reluctant to report in case it prevents them from doing their jobs.[20][21][22]
She said the incident involved 200 to 300 men and lasted around 25 minutes. She had been reporting the celebrations for an hour without incident when her camera battery failed. One of the Egyptian CBS crew suggested they leave, telling her later he heard the crowd make inappropriate sexual comments about her. She felt hands touching her, and can be heard shouting "stop", just as the camera died. One of the crowd shouted that she was an Israeli, a Jew, a claim that CBS said, though false, was a "match to gasoline". She went on to say that they tore off her clothes and, in her words, raped her with their hands, while taking photographs with their cellphones. They began pulling her body in different directions, pulling her hair so hard she said it seemed they were trying to tear off chunks of her scalp. Believing she was dying, she was dragged along the square to where the crowd was stopped by a fence, alongside which a group of women were camping. One woman wearing a chador put her arms around Logan, and the others closed ranks around her, while some men who were with the women threw water at the crowd. A group of soldiers appeared, beat back the crowd with batons, and one of them threw Logan over his shoulder. She was flown back to the U.S. the next day, where she spent four days in the hospital.[20][21] She was contacted by President Obama when she arrived home.[23] CBS said it remained unclear who the attackers were, and unlikely that any will be prosecuted.[20][21]

(86,378 posts)She has a lot of gall thinking she has any license to talk about whether the media is liberal of not. And claiming to be held responsible for fake news? What a laugh!
I have to go find some reference of her cause for exit from the limelight for however long it's been. Guess she's back, like a nasty virus.
ETA: Here's what got her kicked of the air for a while.

It was a horrible interview that she conducted and it seemed, at the time, to be another staged hit job on Obama and Clinton.

(812 posts)They didn't fire her like they did Dan Rather for his report on G.W. Bush going AWOL from the National Guard.
I rarely watch 60 Minutes any more because of the discrepancies in their treatment of him and her. Her Benghazi report was so outlandish and she used an already discredited source to keep drumming it.
She should have been fired as well.

(3,635 posts)because it was a circus that was "good for ratings", to paraphrase Les Moonves.
The media basically is a business and tends to dwell on whatever narrative can make them money... they're amoral libertarians, if anything, in this sense.
Logan sounds like she's auditioning for Faux News - better bleach that hair a little blonder.

(9,350 posts)Someone needs to ask her to give an example of where the media has been wrong about Donald Trump. I cannot think of any real story where the media has been proven wrong on something they reported about Donald Trump. On multiple occasions, the media made a statement about Donald Trump. Donald Trump then called the statement fake news. Days, weeks, or months later the story was confirmed either by Trump's team, or because the action was proven to have taken place.
Whether it was meetings at Trump tower, staff members being fired, staff members leaving their posts at the White House, lawyers being hired by Trump/the White House, campaign staff reaching out to Russians, or people being given hush money (being bribed) all the stories have mainly been proven true. So, where is the media responsible for fake news? What does the media have to take ownership of and address?
Lara Logan claiming she is committing "professional suicide" is like some of these washed up, never really a star, Hollywood stars claiming they lost their careers because they came out in support of Donald Trump. Like the never really a star stars Lara Logan's career was over before she made these latest statements. I have rarely, if ever, heard of/from Lara Logan in years. I really did not know she was still a reporter.
