Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) could move to block President Trump from invoking a national emergency to build a border wall, forcing Senate Republicans to choose between preserving congressional power and crossing the White House, the Washington Examiner reports.
The California Democrat, under a seldom-used statute, could put a binding resolution of disapproval on the House floor to counter Trump should he claim constitutional powers to unilaterally build a border wall.

(2,451 posts)..than many people realized. Or maybe that's why there was a move to have someone younger. fill the Speaker's position. I'm pretty sure that notion didn't originate on the Left but more likely from the freaked out Right who knew how much power an experienced leader could wield.

(58,785 posts)but everyone does remember that she's part of a very redoubtable team of pros, right? Also that all these rules are in writing and even large numbers of very smart assistants are supposed to know what they are and how they can be used? And that the top leadership consults extensively with each other and appropriate committee chairs and legal and policy experts in making these big decisions?

(5,815 posts)He just handed her a nice long time to make HER game plan of how to deal with his impulsive, illogical ideas. Speaker Pelosi did not just fall off the turnip truck. She knows her way around the halls of Congress and how things work there. So thanks to his all but announcing what he will do (said to impress his base), she can confer with her fellow legislators, get all of them on the same page and be ready to meet his idea with a plan of her own.
I cant wait to see this. Can.Not.Wait.
