I still got it. It was a small card just thanking me. I am sure the card was sent to tens of thousands of others who sent condolences. Still, I thought and still think, that it was kind to send out cards to all who expressed sympathy to her..

Not a plus for me here: I wrote to Candidate McGOVERN and said I respected him immensely but that he had *ZERO* chance to win and that he should step down and let somebody who had a CHANCE to beat NIXON take the run, that BEATING NIXON was all that mattered.

Back then, he didn't even play it up that he was a WAR HERO, we/*I* didn't know. He could have used it. I got back a short letter, surely from a staffer with a signature that looked original, saying that he appreciated my view but that he thought he had a good chance to win and that he hoped I would support him. BIG LOSS: I have no idea what happened to the letter. Of course, I voted for him as with all other Dem nominees in my voting life.

And when I posted this the first time here, years ago, I was told, "You should be proud you voted for him." No. All that counted was BEATING NIXON.

Before emails and the other easy means of communications, when one had to sit and write and address a stamped envelope, I wrote to my two senators, and others who were running in the 1988 primary about voting NO on Bork. And I did get replies.

Same with Boxer and Feinstein.

I did not get an acknowledgement from Bill Clinton the only POTUS attempt.

I wrote to him because the economy sucked and I couldn't find a summer job while in college. The other time I wrote to him was about the POWs and MIAs still missing from the Vietnam War. He didn't write anything back, he just sent the typical and generic form letters. I expected as much from him. That was before the internet.

I wrote an email to Obama in 2016 and wanted to know what he was going to do about Russia since I thought the punishment should have been really harsh and Putin wouldn't give up. I also wrote that I was worried about losing my ACA coverage since I am sick. He was very nice and was more concerned with my health than Russia, while I was more concerned with Putin than my illnesses.

When I write to the fucking moron I tell him what a horrible president and insane person he is and suggest he resign, go swimming in a shark infested pool (he hates sharks), go visit Putin and stay there forever, etc.
After the first one I got a lovely reply and thank you for supporting him...REALLY! I guess that wasn't mean enough. After that I have let everything I really think about him flow since they obviously aren't read by anyone. And I request NO REPLY (it just allows me to blow off steam).

Obama, supportive. Topic: Obamacare/the ACA Which changed my life.

I thanked him every year, and I'm going to thank him again this year. Except same as last, I'll just tweet it to him. I'm deeply grateful still I'm covered and treated.

He always sent me an appreciation letter that mentioned my reasons for thanking him. I know it wasn't from him, really. It still made me smile.

He helped I think directly as the IRS called me angry that I did not have to pay the $900.00 they wanted. I do not remember getting a reply but I have a faint memory that I did. The agent from the IRS was a women who called me at work. I told her never to call my office again, strange times, wouldn't happen today.

As a yongster, I wrote Carter, Reagan, and Bush I. Reagan and Bush sent mass-produced signed photos. In Carter's defense, I didnt write him until after his ass whuppin'. He probably was done responding to mail by then.

Growing up in Arkansas, I didnt see many presidential visits, but when they happened, I almost always went. I was able to shake Clinton's hand at a Razorback basketball game once. They were really good then (natl champs in 1994, runners up in 1995), so he was coming to alot of games. I waited on the rope line for Bush II the night before he beat Gore. He made his way toward me, and we chatted about 20 seconda. I know complimenting him here is verboten, but he was quite friendly, teased me a little about the wisdom of standing in the light rain to see him. It would have lasted longer but a campaign aide made him move on. He seemed genuinely kind. I voted for Gore the next day.

These days, no way in hell I'd go see a Republican preisdent. Hell, I wouldnt go see half the supposed 2020 Dem candidates. I'm more choosy these days!

I am not surprised by Bush 2 being friendly and chatty. Even when he had two shoes thrown at him he was able to laugh at it. This current moron would have had him shot on the spot since he is too slow to duck and would have been hit, twice. He is too stupid to see the second one was probably coming his way too.
