Article: I Voted for Republicans, Until They Voted Against My Son

I Voted for Republicans, Until They Voted Against My Son
By Tasha Nelson

Link: https://www.thecut.com/2018/10/republicans-dont-protect-preexisting-conditions.html

(snip)
I used to be a swing voter who leaned Republican. But now that the Republican Party has reduced rare disease tax credits, is not protecting people with preexisting conditions, and moved (in my opinion) far too quickly on a decision about a lifetime Supreme Court Justice who could determine the future of health care in this country, the GOP has single-handedly forced me to move steadily and solidly to the left. President Trump has said and tweeted repeatedly that Republicans will protect preexisting conditions. The truth is if the Republican Party weren’t so effectively passing legislation dismantling the solid protections already in place, I wouldn’t need to write this article. The only reason we are in a position to worry about protection at all is the Republican Party slowly and steadily attacking the existing protective pieces of the ACA by voting to remove them.

Great article. I hope everyone can read this, as it's a good review of the Repug bullshit healthcare legislation in Congress.

This bill is a smokescreen designed to make people think the GOP has an interest in protecting preexisting conditions, while in reality it firmly and solidly returns us to the the days where insurance companies could freely discriminate for profit.

The Blue Wave of reality..............

This is what President Obama did for us that too many didn't appreciate until it could be taken away.

We're seeing inflation at the grocery store, but most radically in medical costs. Billing for our doctor visits on Medicare (plus Humana) has hit us hard.

Why were my parents and grandparents all Democrats?.... ......Were they all right or wrong?.....

Yes, "it's just gotta be" because I think history shows those who are right in their beliefs and steadfast eventually win out in the long run. I'm just hoping we don't have to go through another world-wide Great Depression or world war to get there.

Now, if we could just flip a few hundred billionaires over to our side....... .........

Far too many Americas vote based on hot button emotional issues like abortion or guns, not what really affects their lives.....until it does affect them square in the face. On the average, I believe Democrats care more and we educate ourselves with far more depth.

We definitely need a better informed public, and one that really cares.

What about this idea: A non-profit, non-partisan government-funded organization that conducts classes around the country in American government, civics and history. And, it would pay any citizen say $15/hour to attend, up to a certain limit per year. That would help educate our citizenry and help low-income families with more income.

Republicans would fight against that to the death because they want a dumbed-down public that is easy to brainwash.....

I was trying to think of a way to get working adults interested in bettering themselves by having public night (or weekend) classes. The only way I see that working would be to pay people, which might be a damn good public investment.

Sort of like a WPA for brains, LOL.

Corporate America and politicians would have to kept away from it. I am a dreamer.

All the pain and misery inflicted by Republican programs and policies didn't bother her enough until they took dead aim at her child. It's a funny sort of progress, but I'll call it progress. There are people out there who get clobbered by a Republican initiative, and still can figure out who hit them.

when people stop voting against their self-interest, in this case, the health of their child.
On the other side, apparently, if her kid was healthy, she would have had no problems voting for Repubs to take away life saving healthcare for other kids. Similarly, kids in cages separated from their families wasn't a persuading picture as well.
