Seems he crossed the Rio Grande in the 1880's when his predictor populations (the black bear and others) were largely reduced by humans.

I'm torn because I don't know if I should turn in my prized dumpster diver find, my stuffed armadillo, Owen, to ICE or CDC.

Hi Fox “News”. This is the 21st century, not the Middle Ages. It is called Hansen’s Disease, caused by a bacteria, and treated with antibiotics. What will you talk about next, Consumption and Apoplexy? Idiots!!!
I do declare!

A) Leprosy (Hansen's disease) is curable now.

B) Leprosy is not that easy to contract and is only mildly contagious. Per the CDC "Prolonged, close contact with someone with untreated leprosy over many months is needed to catch the disease." 95 percent of people have natural immunity to the disease.

C) We already have leprosy in the US. Armadillos carry the bacteria. There are new cases every year (about 200) in the US.

Well, gosh. Color me terrified.
