California enacts strongest net neutrality protections in the country as Trump administration files

Gov. Jerry Brown has restored net neutrality rules in California that were repealed under the Trump administration, setting up a legal battle with the federal government over whether states can prevent companies from blocking access to the internet.

The ambitious new law, which was signed by Brown late Sunday and takes effect Jan. 1, prohibits broadband and wireless companies from blocking, throttling or otherwise hindering access to internet content, and from favoring some websites over others by charging for faster speeds. It prompted a quick and aggressive response from Trump administration officials, who have sued to block the regulations.

“Under the Constitution, states do not regulate interstate commerce — the federal government does,” Atty. Gen. Jeff Sessions said in a statement issued Sunday. “Once again the California legislature has enacted an extreme and illegal state law attempting to frustrate federal policy.”

Ajit Pai, the Trump-appointed chairman of the Federal Communications Commission who over nine months worked to shelve the federal net neutrality regulations, said he was pleased with the lawsuit, pointing to a federal courts appellate ruling that he said found “state regulation of information services is preempted by federal law.”

Hey Sessions, your ilk doesn't like the Constitution remember, after all you did lie in front of a confirmation hearing, and just for historical reference maybe you should read Nancy Macleans book: Democracy in Chains
THE DEEP HISTORY OF THE RADICAL RIGHT’S STEALTH PLAN FOR AMERICA

Because your ilk have been following James Buchanan model since he created it with his libertarian policies, that states rights over ride federal rights....................

States rights works both ways, you evil little elf.

States regulate auto insurance, they can regulate internet access as well.

The Trump administration has sued California over a new law imposing net neutrality protections.

The lawsuit filed Sunday by the U.S. Department of Justice came roughly an hour after Gov. Jerry Brown signed the law.

The Federal Communications Commission last year repealed rules preventing internet companies from exercising more control over what people watch and see on the internet.

If my memory serves, during the open comment phase of repealing net neutrality this time, weren't the public comments about 80-90% in favor of keeping net neutrality? If not more?

Damn uppity peasants. They will never learn corporations always get what they want, eventually.

for just one more term? I don't know of anyone who will be able to hang on to Brown's great works here in California. It worries me. So much good for our state because of him may hang by a thread after he's gone.
