(78 posts)The investigation is not by law or in accordance with any law. It's a procedure of the senate. In essence, they senate told Trump..."we can not advise and consent"...without the additional information..

(54,770 posts)rather than thinking about a thousand reasons its part of a conspiracy. If it turns out the final report is clearly a whitewash, thatll be a different situation.

(7,408 posts)They are simply taking statements and following any leads within the scope of the investigation. They don't draw any conclusions or refer anything to prosecutors, it's a background investigation that is turned over to the White House who then will pass statements to the Senate.

Can't be obstruction of justice.
Now, if in the process the FBI uncovers a federal crime which might still be charged... then any attempt to limit the investigation might well be obstruction of justice.
