From yesterday:
I have to wonder what has her so antsy. Perhaps there are revelations concerning the Manafort case?

As we have seen with the Mueller investigation findings.

(58,785 posts)Russian counterintelligence agents, and also easy to believe she felt betrayal was virtue.
Her VP choice, Baraka, is an unbalanced whackadoodle so consumed by anti-American hostility that he wouldn't have offered any sport to the FSB's professional hunters. He was on Sputnik International just a week or so ago pushing standard Russian anti-American propaganda. Back when that Malaysian flight was shot down over the Ukraine, he claimed it was done to be blamed on poor, innocent Russia. It seems entirely believable that his willingness to push Russian propaganda was his top qualification.

(10,173 posts)She ends up being an easy mark unwittingly.
Russian Propaganda finds a home in the anti-imperialist Left. For people like Stein, the world is not a mixed bag of different imperialist hegemonies, each vying for dominance. In her perspective, the only imperialist power with dubious intent is the United States and her allies. She finds common cause with those who want to bring down the Liberal Order so she is one of many useful idiots who sees Russia as entirely benign. Other useful idiots include Assange, Greenwald etc.
She's a good example of how the tunnel vision of some on the left fails those who are fighting oppression in their own countries. In one breath, these useful idiots will critique capitalism and the war machine and in the other, defend maniacs and dictators who dress their rhetoric in anti-imperialism while being some of the worst scumbags ever to walk the earth.

(58,785 posts)either slide into left wing extremism by feeding a disposition to it, or were hard wired to it from the beginning.
A psychologist who studies extremism while comparing the many similarities between extremists on the left and right also humorously and succinctly summarized a main way they differ:
* Extremists on the right "hate everyone else."
* Extremists on the left "hate themsleves." That is, anything they see themselves as identified with.
And, yup! Extremist tendencies vary in intensity, of course, but recognize that typical defining characteristic for the left and everything you describe starts making sense.

And once and for all let's have the truth about Devine did he use his 'connections' to help that campaign along. Time for truth.

My husband wanted to know who the women were. I couldn't find anything about Martha Young - too common a name. Catherine Barnes might be the author of Politics of Compromise: The Tajikistan Peace Process (Accord) and work with Conciliation Resources. I'm not sure what this organization is - it claims to have worked toward peace in a number of countries.

Our staunch conviction when we were founded and continuing to this day was that people living in areas affected by armed conflict should be involved in its resolution. We began our work with just two second-hand computers and donated office space.
We are still committed to working at a human-scale, where the work is made possible by the trust earned. We have grown significantly and now draw on years of experience to provide practical support to hundreds of people living in the midst of conflict.
Our earliest project work began in Fiji, followed by work in Sierra Leone and Liberia, and then the South Caucasus and Uganda. We have since expanded our reach to include work in other countries across East and Central Africa, the Horn of Africa, Latin America, South Asia, Southeast Asia and West Africa. Early on we also started our publication series Accord. The renown of this series has grown and it is now a common reference point for people working in peacebuilding around the world.

(19,204 posts)I haven't seen that photo in a long time, and I could have gone the rest of my life without seeing it again. That one photo sums up how "some democrats" were used as pawns of Russia, and ended up installing Donald the Stupid as "president".
I'm not angry with you RandySF, it wasn't your fault Stein sold herself and her country out to Putin and his oligarchs. I merely had hoped I'd never see that picture of "those people" ever again. It's a good reminder of how easily some people can be manipulated, though.

She is so toxic. I know a young man in my community who was a big Bernie guy who believed all the Russian anti-Hillary crap and he became a Jill Stein supporter. He still posts anti-Democratic stuff on FB - indicating that the Dems and the Repubs are exactly the same except for stances on abortion. I had thought of reaching out to him (he used to sing in my church choir), but I think it would be pointless. We can't convince guys like this.

(18,291 posts)one of my students was lucky enough to score a ticket in a student lottery to an Obama-Romney presidential debate. She told me later about a "crazy woman" who had to be escorted out of the arena surrounded by police. The woman had shown up early, insisting on her right to be on stage and take part in the debate. My student told me that watching the pyrotechnics between security and the aggrieved "participant" was an amusing diversion as the ticket holders patiently waited to pass through their checkpoint.
My immediate response to the student? "That was Jill Stein."

... next to Putin at the head table, in the seat of honor, was an American. Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who would later become Donald Trump's national security adviser, was already advising Trump's presidential campaign when he was paid $45,000 to speak at the gala ... An NBC News review of video and photos from the RT gala shows a healthy serving of ex-spies, cronies and oligarchs, with a side of friendly journalists and another American ... Three of the Russians, including Putin, were under U.S. sanctions at the time for their role in Russia's annexation of Crimea ...
