Maybe cutting his losses?
To me it looks as though Putin's finally decided Dirty Donald is more of a liability than an asset. And that the longer he continues where he is, the higher the likelihood that other, more valuable, Russian assets will be exposed and well-entrenched espionage and disinformation operations will be disrupted.
And those have always been Putin's top priority- it's the long, slow game that does deeper, more lasting damage to his "major enemy", the U.S.
If Dirty Donald goes down for money laundering, tax fraud, etc., it'll render the ongoing investigation of Russian electoral meddling, disinformation, and espionage via compromised assets moot.
So... time to cut the losses. Weisselberg, Pecker, Cohen, etc. have their 'new instrutions'. So do the Russian assets in the SDNY Attorney's office.
Once Putin decides he wants Dirty Donald to go away, the dominos will start falling quickly.
I can hear arpeggios coming from the fat lady's dressing room. And an odd, rhythmic splurty clicking that may be Dirty Donald's butthole a-puckering.
speculatively,

(58,785 posts)as an obstacle to his hegemonic ambitions, I don't really see why he'd be done with Trump. Seems to me Trump has great potential for causing us a lot more harm in domestic policy, foreign policy, and of course in dividing the electorate so we can't unite to protect ourselves and punish our enemies.

(7,788 posts)Foundation, etc. We hear lots of news and progress about those aspects of ongoing investigations. Money trails, corruption, payoffs, accountants, playboy bunnies, etc.
When was the last time Carter Page was mentioned? Or the 30 million from Russia laundered through the NRA? Or the 82 Russian contacts that everyone Trump has known denied existed? Or Session's meetings with Russians?
Sure...lots of discussions on message boards and on some media outlets, but not much news. I'm wondering what this might mean and remembering in 2017 all the DU theories about where this would all go. I remember that folks were questioning if we'd ever find out how bad the conspiracy was, how far back how much money, and how badly our elections were messed with. We said that there are congresspersons, maybe the gang of 8, who would prioritize the stability of the US and our superpower standing over exposing every last detail of the Trump crime family's corruption and misdeeds.
I wonder if TPTB know that they have Trump dead to rights with a ton of financial corruption, obstruction, and election law stuff...and that they don't want to/need to turn the world upside down by exposing all the ways our democracy and election system failed in 2016 (and before). I wonder if a behind the scenes strategy has been formed, perhaps with Trump included, so that the world never finds out that a Russian agent has been in charge of the white house for two years and that he could be tried for treason in a very messy, long, painful, embarrassing episode during which we might not have all our security oars in the water.
If congressional investigators, who probably know a significant portion of what Mueller knows, thought we were headed into dangerous treason and conspiracy waters soon...it seems we'd be hearing a lot more about it and that at least some gop and dem congresspersons would be making some noise. They would think time is of the essence, like we do. They would think that exposing some of the intelligence and classified evidence would be worth potential penalties. Good of the nation, and stuff like that.
I would like to be proven wrong by some Mueller conspiracy indictments soon.
