In a tweet over the weekend, Trump reversed course on his explanation of 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer in Trump Tower. The president had originally claimed that the meeting had been about adoptions. But in his Sunday tweet, Trump admitted that the purpose of the meeting had been to get damaging information about Hillary Clinton, the 2016 Democratic nominee.

On Monday, NBC’s Peter Alexander reported that the White House had issued a “lid” on presidential travel and questions from the press.

I also took out the first paragraph from Raw Story, which included the error.

As far as the unrelated photo goes, they do that with at least 80% of the stories they post.

But in terms of accuracy on verbal content, this should fix it.

A “lid” just tells the travel pool that he’s not going anywhere or planning to make any statements, so they can stand down for the day. This is not uncommon, especially when a president is on vacation. Otherwise, the pool has to remain on heightened standby, which is pretty grueling.

A lid is put on at some point every day when a president is traveling so the travel pool can plan.

Raw Story is making something of nothing, completely ignoring the word “today” in Alexander’s tweet.
