or just fold our cards, slink away and stop pretending that we stand for anything. We need to raise the kind of disruptive hell that will make the Vietnam protests look tame. I mean take to the streets---in DC if possible, but wherever you can---and SHUT IT DOWN!
Any talk about the possibility that Trump will name a moderate is pure BULLSHIT! His base will insist on another fascist POS and he will do as he is told by Adelson and the Koch's.
We stand to lose abortion rights, gay rights, what's left of labor rights any pretense that this is anything but a white, evangelical Christian nation.
It's put up or shut up time. I'm ready to get my 69 year old ass arrested. How about you?

(30,717 posts)I live in Illinois. We have some pretty ruthless Democrats here. That is how we keep this state blue, given our large rural population.
Some of the purists here do not like our ruthless leadership. Fuck that. GOTV or get out of Dodge.

(6,254 posts)with Rs controlling everything. Im so tired of Rs walking all over Dems. Hell I seek refuge here and get chastised for calling Dems P_ _ _y. The last Dem to handle the Rs was Bill Clinton. Since then we are no better than doormats, following the rules and eating their shit. Its infuriating.

(5,122 posts)I have a 5 yr old niece, My twentysomething yr old son is a gay black man. I not only fight for me - I fight for them
What will we tell them if we don't?
I refuse to let this country go back to a time when my son cannot go back to a time when my son cannot marry whom he wants or my niece will not have a choice over her own body. Or as people of color denied their civil rights. There are people that has presented for other judicial positions that do not believe that Brown vs Bd of Education was the right decision.

(16,994 posts)Fuck the Kochs! I'm over old, white men telling everybody what to do. They want to roll the clock back to the 1950's when they were kings of the hill. How dare these modern uppity women and POC demand to be treated as equals! Yeah, well, get over it! We do. We are not going back.

(15,124 posts)poster boys, you are badly underestimating the shameless depravity of the opposition. I would bet you that a first draft of the opinion overturning Roe vs Wade already exists in the files of one of the better-financed "family values" front groups.?

(5,399 posts)I wish it weren't, but it is.
Segregation was settled law, slavery was settled law, miscegenation was settled law, all until they weren't-- made that way by enlightened people who thought everyone deserved a chance.
In nature, entropy rules, and things can be broken so quickly that the mind boggles. I am in my early 50s, and doubt that I will live to see all of these wrongs righted.

(90,565 posts)...and commit arson to shut down every clinic in the country. They have killed a number of doctors and nurses, have put up Wanted posters, have stalked the children of clinic personnel and have put information online about their schools and schedules.
And lie. They tell their followers and politicians that contraceptives (including The Pill) are abortifacients. They say no woman can die of pregnancy or childbirth in this day and age (another lie). Abortion is completely unavailable in the majority of counties in the US -- in Texas, there is one (1) clinic -- putting a tremendous burden on women who must travel overnight, arrange childcare, lose pay, and tell someone what they are doing, exposing them to risk.
They have pushed for "conscience" legislation, allowing doctors and pharmacists to refuse prescriptions and to refuse to fill prescriptions for everything from contraceptions to Plan B to pill-induced abortions -- the latter 2 are very time-sensitive.
It is a war they have engaged in ever since Roe v. Wade was handed down. They are fanatics and don't care who gets hurt.
And now, they will win.

(62,269 posts)And 2 years before that from the same "left" as they pushed Obama on us.
I watched for nearly 20 years, the rapid decline of the Democratic Party, falling for the same tricks and manipulations that the Republicans are using to this day.
Perfect is the enemy of the good. The Democratic Party does not need its own version of the Teabaggers. We see that the Republicans have become strengthened by marginalizing the Teabaggers.
I'm not stopping now but I'm done pretending. I see what's happening and the left has lost.

Hoping for a leader to come to front and help us enact change. Looking for a leader like MLK or Bobby Kennedy--someone that can bring out the passion and encourage sacrifice.
Wondering if there is someone that can rise above the noise of the talking heads. Someone that can make us forget about self and worry about each other. Someone who can make us understand that we are more alike than we are different. And to borrow a phrase from Hillary---someone that can make us understand that we really are stronger together.

(3,922 posts)I'm 64, a few years younger than the OP.
I was at the later Vietnam rallies and marched, in NYC, for a end to the war.
I missed most of the civil rights demonstrations due to age.
It's time to take our stand!
It's time to pick up John Lewis, the Berrigan brothers, Martin Luther King, the rest of the Catonsville Nine, and everyone who marched , protested, fought, was beaten, sacrificed, and STOOD UP for decency, for democracy, for justice, and for humanity.
Nothing is easy and nothing stopped the great people who fought against injustice and tyranny. The suffragettes, the Pullman strikers, the farm workers, the blue collar workers of today who owe their existence to the labor movement - all who benefited from policies designed to help the American workers.
We are in the worst shape we have ever been. The POTUS is a conman, a charlatan, a functional idiot who has no empathy and no consideration for the average American.
Now they rule.
And now.....we fight.
Take to the barricades, shut it down!
Rid ourselves of this cancer - NOW!

(37,648 posts)I've never been to a protest before. I was surprised there was one in this Trump territory area I live in. There will probably be just a few people.
But I'm going. It's for the separation of the kids thing. I need to check and see if it's still on, now that a court has ruled they can't separate them.
