23andMe said to be donating DNA kits to help reunite immigrant families

The online DNA service you use to find out your ancestry may soon help reunite immigrant families.

23andMe CEO Anne Wojcicki has agreed to provide DNA kits to help reunite families separated at the US border, reported the San Jose, California-based Mercury News. The idea came to life after Rep. Jackie Speier, a Democrat from California, approached the DNA-testing company on Thursday.

Under the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" policy on immigration, more than 2,000 children have been separated from their families after entering the US illegally. Following widespread outcry, Trump signed an executive order Wednesday that will allow families to be detained together, and he reportedly said Thursday authorities will be told to reunite previously separated families. Given that children and adults who cross the border together aren't always related, as the Los Angeles Times reported, 23andMe's DNA kits might help to reunite the children with their rightful parents.

Sigh.....
At least someone has stepped up with a concrete way to identify those kids. The process will have to be done carefully and that means no government bastids.

I am not suggesting this will magically solve the problems. I will not, however, make snarky r3marks about thi# offer.

IIRC, after police used one of the DNA databases to partially match a homicide suspect who turned out to be completely uninvolved in the crime they were investigating, these geneology companies like Ancestry took their DNA databases off line. I'd think the feds would not have access to the DNA data.

the kids will be ready for retirement before they find out where their family is. Citizens need to do the job of the broken government.

Need to take pictures of each one of them , then that needs to be posted somewhere online where all the parents can go to to know where their child is at. If even one picture is taken to show where they are it could help, and be used to document their whereabouts. What would be really good if a judge forced this, then gave then a deadline for their return, or trump will be faced with huge fines, he personally will have to pay, not us. Is trump going to hide them more giving the judge the middle finger, probably , he is above the rule of law, thanks to the gop in Congress. Another dark dark chapter coming from this White Supremacy House now. His legacy will prove to be by far the worst of any President his country has ever experienced . Putting babies in prison, permanently and intentionally damaging these children for life should demand consequences for what HE"S done. They're putting the wrong baby in a cage. Hitler used psychology to control his people too, to accept doing unspeakable things to people he hated.
