An incredible battle. So far from home. Shark infested waters and no surrender from the enemy deeply entrenched.

Repeatedly warned not to enter any caves as they may contain booby traps and other live ordnance. Officers apparently thought they were excluded from this rule, an LT from one of the units on Camp Schwab went spelunking and stumbled on to just that, a pile of live Japanese munitions. He made it out alive, but apparently he literally fell into it. As I remember, the complete, in situ remains of a US Army MIA were discovered by a group of US military personnel out for a hike while I was there.

with 902nd field artillery. He didn't speak much other than to say it was brutal. This went on for 82 days.
