Rep. Mimi Walters painted a dire picture for her fellow California Republicans on Friday night. Headlining a congressional dinner at the state partys annual confab, Walters warned that Democrats are targeting Republicans and nowhere harder than right here in California.
Walters, who is facing a competitive race with four Democratic challengers, acknowledged that winning crucial House seats this year will be tough. Democrats are going after 10 GOP-held House seats in California, seven of which were won by Hillary Clinton in 2016.
The Democrats think theres no stopping them this time. Theyre not just coming for any one of us, theyre coming for all of us. But, she added, this isnt going to go the way they think it is.
Donald Trump was not her first choice to be the standard-bearer of the Republican Party in 2016, Walters said, but she has come to appreciate how he connected with voters.

No, we don't. We know perfectly well that Republicans play dirty and that they are perfectly willing to cheat to win elections. We know they will do just about anything to "win" close elections by any means at their disposal. Paul Wellstone, anyone?
"Theyre not just coming for any one of us, theyre coming for all of us. Well, we do know perfectly well that many of their seats are solidly in their hands. However, the last time we flipped both houses of Congress our way, we used what what was called the "50 State Strategy." Howard Dean knew: we'll never "get" all of them. But if we make no effort to be competitive, we don't even have a chance to "get" them. So, yes, we should be offering an alternative, even to secure Republican seats. You never know when the people in those districts/states just MIGHT be ready for a change. Doug Jones, Conor Lamb. The LAST thing we need to do is be intimidated into thinking it's useless to compete in some races just because our chances seem slim at the beginning. So, while we may not be making a serious effort to dislodge Republicans in totally secure seats, we should do it anyhow. If we have the right candidate and the right message, maybe those seats can be made just a little less secure. Beto O'Rourke, anyone?
