(21,193 posts)For people. Sometimes she has been more pragmatic than progressive but she can be convinced to change her mind if you give her a good argument.

(6,839 posts)and I think for many girls/young women my age, Dianne Feinstein became a role model as far as women in powerful political positions.
She was an icon as mayor of San Francisco, so I have always been an admirer of her leadership and tenacity. I know that she hasn't always been as progressive as some would like her to be.
Because I grew up with her as a role model, it is difficult for me to look at her objectively and critically. I think she has had an amazing political career, and I would hate to see it end.

There are well known senators with very very little in the "accomplishment" column, but she is not one of them.
She has accomplished a great deal and has been smart about it.

Look at uber-lib hero Dennis Kucinich.
His major accomplishments during his eight terms in the House were getting two Post Offices in Cleveland named after someone or other.
Hoo-fucking-ray. Let's make him Governor.
Dianne Feinstein gets @#$% done. Important @#$%. And she is smart about it.

He's closer to my values. He also garnered more votes at the state Democratic convention.
Given California's current top two candidate system, the general election will probably between de Leon vs Feinstein.
So, either way, a Democrat will hold that seat.
I feel no problem with voting against Feinstein in this case. More than that, I'm voting for de Leon. I like the guy and what he stands for.
Here's a link to some comparisons that cropped up before the convention. It's a decent cursory primer for people unfamiliar with them and where they are situated.
