@Joseph Lamour
Wendy Williams just asked her audience if they agree that Michelle Wolf's jokes were inappropriate and when two white women clapped she said "Then you're at the wrong show, Rachael Ray is downstairs."

(1,009 posts)Wendy Williams is aired on fox. Shes been mostly apolitical on her show, when really most of her audience is probably on the left (mostly nyc guests). Im glad when she gets a zinger in here and there. Too bad she doesnt move to another channel where she can talk more freely.

(6,229 posts)Is Fox the same as Fox News?
Blue_Adept
(6,399 posts)Otherwise you wouldn't have simpsons taking heavy potshots at FN over the years.
Clarity2
(1,009 posts)for ages. Before fox became the extremist of extreme. They wouldnt cut off simpsons for the money maker it is. They also tolerate two news anchors who tell the truth. Ive seen williams bite her tongue when a story about trump comes up...she must be holding back for a reason. Maybe she wasnt explicitly told to keep out of politics, but she is at minimum not taking the plunge because she wants to hold onto her job.
I do wonder if murdochs sale of 21st century fox includes non news tv shows and maybe williams is loosening up a bit.

(24,931 posts)There are actually some good shows on Fox:
Simpsons
Empire
Showtime at the Apollo
Shows as good as any of the other basic networks

(7,530 posts)Family Guy started on Fox, and when it came out, it was the most audacious show of its time when The Simpsons had somewhat settled into its own somewhat gentle, heartfelt satire.
Also, if you've never seen a little reality show called "Temptation Island", it was literally about trying to get committed couples to cheat on camera.

(29,067 posts)I wonder how funny this scenario would be:
.
A white tv host asks the audience for their opinion on something...Two Black women give an answer the host doesn't like, so she tells them "You're on the wrong show -- Steve Harvey is down the hall"
The outrage would go though the roof..Double standard, anyone?
JohnnyRingo
(18,636 posts)At least I didn't read it that way, but being in the racial majority I'm not easily offended. Perhaps someone who always cocks an ear to dog whistles has a better perception than me.
She was talking about dissing Sanders as far as I was concerned. You can go ahead and be outraged, I'll just chuckle.
Fill out a report and move on if you possibly can.

(18,636 posts)To be fair, most people don't realize they conduct themselves differently on the internet.
It's like when someone cuts off a sweet little lady and she lays on the horn like an air raid siren. On foot she'd just smile and step aside, but anonymity reveals a different side.

(29,067 posts)It was obvious -- The two women were not "talking about dissing Sanders" -- They effing raised their hands in answer to Williams question -- It looked like a set-up.
Oh, and please, save your "outrage report" for those here who re-iterating their "outrage" Joy Reid or Lisa Wolfe for DAYS but who, when white women are trashy, are indifferent at best, defensand and outright hostile at worst . Sorry, honey, but "double standards" don't cut it here for ANY of us.

(14,249 posts)if we ever saw you jump in as eagerly to stand up for the rights of minorities, especially African Americans, when discrimination and racism by whites against them are discussed on DU.
But funny thing. You and your cohorts seem only to be concerned about these matters when it appears to you that white people are on the receiving end of bad treatment or if you think that a white person is being wrongly accused of inflicting it. You fall all over yourselves jumping in to and trying to hijack just about any thread discussing racism against blacks and other minorities with your bs theres more to the storyisms, whataboutisms, and, of course, this could have been something other that racisms. And you holler like stuck pigs at the very THOUGHT that someone is possibly not bending over backwards to be fair to a white person, regardless the circumstances.
Yet, interestingly, you are almost always completely silent in the face of unequivocal instances of racism against black and brown folk. Crickets. Unless, of course, its to insist that the racism is imaginary and pointing it out unfairly demonizes white people.
So, its hardly surprising that, given your oh-so-consistent inconsistency, you are not viewed as a reliable or credible voice on issues of fairness and equality, at least not by those of us who actually DO care about these issues and know the difference between live and Memorex.
whathehell
(29,067 posts)Democratic principles of fairness for ALL rather than by race-based affinities and resentments. The very thing you accuse me and my "cohorts" of doing is what we see you and yours doing.
As to jumping in on thread supporting Minority Rights -- I HAVE done that and continue to do so -- I support Black Lives Matter and Reparations and have said so on more than one occasion...Some just seem "selective" about what they see.

(5 posts)Wolf's jokes had nothing to do with race and neither did those who approved or disapproved of her presentation. Why are we race baiting here?
I thought we preached tolerance here, but I am seeing that is only one-sided. The same goes for free speech so this CNN story seems fitting for many of you on this thread.
(CNN) Fareed Zakaria said Saturday that though many liberals think they are tolerant, often they aren't.
Zakaria noted that "at the height of commencement season," many new graduates across the country had made their political views apparent, from the Notre Dame students who walked out as Vice President Mike Pence gave his commencement address to the crowd members who booed Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos during a speech at Bethune-Cookman University.
"American universities seem committed to every kind of diversity except intellectual diversity. Conservative voices and views are being silenced entirely," Zakaria said.
The CNN host said he found this attitude strange, especially given that these incidents occurred on college campuses that "promised to give their undergraduates a liberal education."
"The word liberal in this context has nothing to do with today's partisan language, but refers instead to the Latin root, pertaining to liberty. And at the heart of liberty in the Western world has been freedom of speech. From the beginning, people understood that this meant protecting and listening to speech with which you disagreed," Zakaria argued
