Trump-Targeted Migrant Caravan Gets Turned Away at Border
A caravan full of Central Americans seeking asylum at the U.S. border with Mexico was turned away by U.S. Customs and Border Protection because the crossing was “at capacity,” the Associated Press reports. CPB announced that the crossing was full hours before the arrival of the nearly 200 migrants and young children fleeing violence in Central America. The agency said San Diego’s San Ysidro crossing could only hold 300 migrants at a time and that it was filling up. “Those individuals may need to wait in Mexico as CBP officers work to process those already within our facilities,” Commissioner Kevin McAleenan told the AP in a statement. The caravan gained attention after a Fox News report this month. The Trump administration has targeted the caravan specifically in remarks, with Attorney General Jeff Sessions calling it “a deliberate attempt to undermine our laws and overwhelm our system.”
