Brooks: Many Republicans Are Likely Retiring Due To Fear Of Assassination

By Katherine Riga | April 28, 2018 5:31 pm

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) floated the idea Friday that Republicans are retiring from Congress in record numbers due to their fear of being assassinated, according to a Friday morning Roll Call report.

While speaking on the Dale Jackson Show, Brooks mentioned the shooting at the congressional Republican baseball practice last year, which left Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) badly wounded.

“You have to wonder with that kind of disproportionate retirement number whether what happened in June played a factor,” he reportedly said. “There are a growing number of leftists who believe the way to resolve this is not at the ballot box but through threats and sometimes through violence and assassinations.”

Brooks conceded that most of the retiring Republicans would likely not attribute their decision to fear for their lives, but added that the number of those leaving, especially those who play on the team, is “out of whack.”

He and those like him think about reacting to political differences with violence, and attribute to others what is present in themselves.

make a fool of himself on the Friday evening show. He and Shields have respectful debates or conversations about politics. I do think, however, Brooks has become somewhat "woke" to what is happening politically. His cause of conservatism has become a horrible joke on our country and I think he knows it.

and remember Brooks commented on Trump carrying Michigan and Pennsylvania saying, "It looks like a good night for Vladimir Putin" or words to that effect. He sounded shocked, bitter, horrified.

As were we all.

The sober and rational tone of the show overall is what I want from news. It sounds like what it is: news produced by adults for adults. Not some flash-bang, ad-ridden sensationalistic offering for short attention spans and immature judgement.

Brooks and Shields are a welcome relief to the pundit panels on cable news, the harping, gish galloping, shouting and disrespectful melees that do nothing to clarify things or offer much substance and balance. Brooks' stand-ins aren't far from him either, in some of those ways. Mona Charen on the Friday, April 27 spared Trump no measure. It's easy to see where she is part of the rising movement among some on the right to rid us of this bothersome POTUS.

Unless it's changed in recent years, a congressman loses his or her
retirement benefits if they are defeated running for re-election. This is
not the case if they leave office by retiring. These dauntless public servants
are just doing what they always do, look out for number one.

Members of Congress are eligible for a pension after five years in office, and can start collecting it at age 62. Get your 5 years in, doesn't matter if you lose your bid for election.

It's a brilliant FOX-like thing to say, without an iota of evidence to support it, that many idiots will accept.

The only thing getting assassinated are these Republicans' political careers. They earned it, fair and square.

If GOPers think they'll be safer from gun deaths by quitting work in the Capitol and joining the public in restaurants, chuches, movie theaters, concerts, and schools, then they haven't been following the news.

More likely, Moe just wanted to blame the Rs' mass exodus on the Ds' somehow and assassination was the best he could come up with on short notice.

The republican'ts can't have a campaign without resorting to stirring up fear among their reptilian-brained followers. If they are living in actual fear themselves, after doing so much to stir up fear, there is karma after all.
