Rachel Maddow and Others Rally Around Joy Reid Following Quasi-Apology: Never Been Prouder to Work With Herby Ken Meyer | 1:58 pm, April 28th, 2018
Several of Joy Reids colleagues are standing by her side after she apologized (ish) on her show AM Joy for newly unearthed homophobic posts from her old blog.
-snip-
After Reid gave her monologue she conversed with a panel of LGBT activists, and a number fellow MSNBCers took to Twitter to voice their support for her, including Rachel Maddow and Lawrence ODonnell. -snip-

(102,515 posts)comment reflects how he views Joy and likely his once employer, MSNBC, I guess. He has a legal blog too and his snide comments re: Anvenatti (Stormy's attorney) pretty much scream GREEN EYED MONSTER syndrome.

(60,536 posts)feels about Joy Reid is not at all reflected in this article by Ken Meyer. It's pretty obvious, by perusing other articles by Meyer, that he's not at all happy with the way this is turning out for Joy Reid.

(102,515 posts)hold. I credit Dan if he isn't a Joy Reid antagonist, but it is his website. So, what the author is posting reflects on him too.

(102,515 posts)Though I think there is a big difference when commenting on the content of a small website, versus a very large and very old widely distributed national newspaper.
Hey it was your comment re: the particular author that led me to believe he's been writing extensively in an anti-Joy "vein". Not true?

At the top of her show Saturday, MSNBC host Joy-Ann Reid addressed the controversy surrounding the newly-unearthed homophobic posts on her old blog, which appeared under her byline.
As she has all week, the MSNBC host denied authorship of the newly-discovered posts but did offer an apology for past homophobic and anti-trans blog posts and Tweets she previously admitted to writing.
I genuinely do not believe I wrote those hateful things because they are completely alien to me, Reid said. But I can definitely understand, based on things I have tweeted and I have written in the past, why some people dont believe me. I have not exempt from being cruel or hurtful to the very people I want to advocate for. I own that. I get it. And for that I am truly, truly sorry.
Reid added:
I can only say that the person I am now is not the person I was then. I like to think Ive gotten better as a person over time that Im still growing. That Im not the same person I was 10, or five, or even one year ago. And I know that my goal is to try to be a better person, and a better ally [to the LGBTQ community].
Now, the reality is I have to own the things that I have written and tweeted and said. And Im hoping out of all of this theres an opportunity to talk about the ways in which hurtful speak does imperil marginalized communities.
Watch above, via MSNBC.

(16,545 posts)So why does she need to apologize? My this story has a lot of twists and turns.
FakeNoose
(32,890 posts)Maybe that's her way of shutting down the whole thing. She did take responsibility for the statements, and that's what is important. Time to let it go.

(9,527 posts)The first posts blew over because she apologized and the world moved on. Hopefully the same happens now.

if you didnt write them, then it would not be this... "I did not write these...".
I personally dont believe she said those things but her response is timid.

(24,650 posts)Some aren't "accepting" her apology either, like it's their place to accept it or not. It is sad that many on both sides of the Joy issue have let the LGBTQ community down. Whether Joy wrote those posts or not, they were painful, and that should not be casually dismissed.
LiberalLovinLug
(14,179 posts)I support Joy in this as well but we didn't see a large response commending his apology and the acceptance that he had learned from some past incident in that case.

(7,299 posts)Then this would have never become the story it has and many DU members would have spared fellow DU members of the ridicule they received for pointing out the obvious - her hacked account excuse didnt hold water.
DoctorJoJo
(1,134 posts).. she made a huge error in denial and trying to obfuscate with the lame "hacked" excuse. She should have owned up immediately, apologized, and explained how she, like many of us, has evolved on these issues over time. Even Obama started his presidency opposed to gay marriage, but he was quick to recognize his error, rather than deny, and became a champion on these issues.
