Rachel Maddow and Others Rally Around Joy Reid Following Quasi-Apology: ‘Never Been Prouder to Work With Her’

by Ken Meyer | 1:58 pm, April 28th, 2018

Several of Joy Reid‘s colleagues are standing by her side after she apologized (ish) on her show AM Joy for newly unearthed homophobic posts from her old blog.

-snip-

After Reid gave her monologue she conversed with a panel of LGBT activists, and a number fellow MSNBCers took to Twitter to voice their support for her, including Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell. -snip-

comment reflects how he views Joy and likely his once employer, MSNBC, I guess. He has a legal blog too and his snide comments re: Anvenatti (Stormy's attorney) pretty much scream GREEN EYED MONSTER syndrome.

Though I think there is a big difference when commenting on the content of a small website, versus a very large and very old widely distributed national newspaper.

Hey it was your comment re: the particular author that led me to believe he's been writing extensively in an anti-Joy "vein". Not true?

Joy Reid Addresses Controversy Over Unearthed Blog Posts: ‘I Genuinely Do Not Believe I Wrote Those Hateful Things’

by Joe DePaolo | 10:34 am, April 28th, 2018

At the top of her show Saturday, MSNBC host Joy-Ann Reid addressed the controversy surrounding the newly-unearthed homophobic posts on her old blog, which appeared under her byline.

As she has all week, the MSNBC host denied authorship of the newly-discovered posts — but did offer an apology for past homophobic and anti-trans blog posts and Tweets she previously admitted to writing.

“I genuinely do not believe I wrote those hateful things because they are completely alien to me,” Reid said. “But I can definitely understand, based on things I have tweeted and I have written in the past, why some people don’t believe me. I have not exempt from being cruel or hurtful to the very people I want to advocate for. I own that. I get it. And for that I am truly, truly sorry.”

Reid added:

I can only say that the person I am now is not the person I was then. I like to think I’ve gotten better as a person over time — that I’m still growing. That I’m not the same person I was 10, or five, or even one year ago. And I know that my goal is to try to be a better person, and a better ally [to the LGBTQ community].

Now, the reality is I have to own the things that I have written and tweeted and said. And I’m hoping out of all of this there’s an opportunity to talk about the ways in which hurtful speak does imperil marginalized communities.

Maybe that's her way of shutting down the whole thing. She did take responsibility for the statements, and that's what is important. Time to let it go.

Some aren't "accepting" her apology either, like it's their place to accept it or not. It is sad that many on both sides of the Joy issue have let the LGBTQ community down. Whether Joy wrote those posts or not, they were painful, and that should not be casually dismissed.

.. she made a huge error in denial and trying to obfuscate with the lame "hacked" excuse. She should have owned up immediately, apologized, and explained how she, like many of us, has evolved on these issues over time. Even Obama started his presidency opposed to gay marriage, but he was quick to recognize his error, rather than deny, and became a champion on these issues.
