CNN's Stephen Collinson is an idiot...

Posted a long-ass article today about how "Trump deserves credit for Korean thaw" and not one fucking mention of how North Korea's testing site is terminally damaged - whole damn mountain is cracked and partially collapsed - effectively ending NK's nuclear ambitions and Kim Jong Un knows it. This isn't news that broke a few minutes ago, we've known about the testing site for days now though geologists had suspected... since September 3rd of last year. Stephen had plenty of time to look at Gizmodo, or Fortune.com, or any number of other places to learn about it before pretending Trump accidentally committed diplomacy.

Trump doesn't deserve any fucking credit, North Korea's poor selection of a testing site does.

2. you're missing the picture where it *looks* like Trump deserves credit

you know, and many of us here know, that NK's test site is broken. what % of the public do you think knows that? what % even cares?

Trump will take credit. Trump's enablers will give him credit. Trump's supporters will believe he deserves credit. disputing Trump's relevance to the situation will cement the credit in his supporters' minds. this is a triumph for Trumpism, deserved or not.

5. If only we had some group of people who could deliver information on TV and print media...

People who write "journals" and maybe publish on "news" networks.

You're missing the picture where I'm calling out Stephen for exactly the thing you're saying, the public not being informed. He had one job and he blew it. His article isn't journalism, it's a celebrity puff piece.

Yes, you and I know it, but it was his job to make sure others knew it too.

7. sadly it also appears his job has changed

as the role of such "journals" and "news" networks is no longer primarily informing the public; the newer responsibility, manufacturing consent, has been long growing within the profession, and now our society is awash in its flowers and fruits as we celebrate the apotheosis of a mad king.

you have my apologies - i misread your post as railing against the situation rather than those who created it.

8. No worries, you're good. We're just two anons on the Internet. It's easy for us to get info.

Stephen's job is to provide info to those that maybe get it primarily from TV like CNN, "The most trusted name in news." And he blew it. Intentionally or accidentally, he threw Trump a bone when he shouldn't have, thereby feeding into the myth that the emperor is wearing clothes.

6. Trump and Kim did a little Pas de Deux of bluster

Kim saw an opportunity to polish his image as a Statesman and took it. Yes, Trumps "hold me back" act played a role.

However, the Nobel Committee is unlikely to give Trump the Peace Prize for casually and repeatedly threatening Nuclear War over his fucking phone.
