The Fairness Doctrine needs to reinstated in 2019

Fox News blacks out Mick Mulvaney’s admission that he sold access to lobbyists
Money talks.

JUDD LEGUM APR 25, 2018, 10:17 AM

Last night the New York Times reported Mick Mulvaney, who simultaneously holds two top positions in the Trump administration, admitted to a group of bankers that, as a Congressman, he sold access to lobbyists.

“We had a hierarchy in my office in Congress. If you’re a lobbyist who never gave us money, I didn’t talk to you. If you’re a lobbyist who gave us money, I might talk to you,” Mulvaney said.

Mulvaney added he would talk to his constituents whether or not they donated money.

It was a startling admission of pay-to-play from a top official in an administration that famously pledged to “drain the swamp.” Mulvaney serves both as Director of the Office of Management and Budget and the interim head of the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau.

Why the Fairness Doctrine needs to be reinstated in 2019 for accountability to this kind of bullshit, for having and holding a broadcast license ..................

before her death had introduced or was about to introduce a new Fairness Doctrine and Accountability bill. Don't know how far it got . . . if anywhere. But I agree, we need to get back to a more balanced sense of reporting, where the discourse serves the public rather than drowning everyone in propaganda.

The Mulvaney story is a case in point. If 40% of the public is getting a sanitized and/or edited version of Mulvaney's admission of his personal pay-to-play history, then no one is being served. Certainly not the electorate when they have to make a choice at the polls.

I think it's been pointed out a time, or two, or two billion, that Fox News doesn't have a broadcast license. Fox News isn't broadcast over the air.

The Fairness Doctrine would not have applied to them.
