This Dog Protected A Toddler For 15 Hours In The Wild And Is Now An Honorary Police Doggo

https://www.boredpanda.com/hero-dog-saves-missing-girl-blue-heeler-aurora-max-queensland/
It’s been proven time and time again that not all heroes wear capes, some rock a shaggy coat of fur and run on 4 legs. Max, a 17-year-old blue heeler from Queensland, Australia, is no exception as his heroic actions are praised all over the internet.

Last Friday, a 3-year-old girl named Aurora was reported missing after she wandered off with her dog into bushland and disappeared. Local police and a group of volunteers searched the area throughout the night, however, they were unable to locate her. The girl’s grandmother, Leisa Bennett was with the search party on Saturday, when she heard Aurora’s voice. “I shot up the mountain, and when I got to the top, the dog came to me and led me straight to her.” Bennett told ABC Brisbane. The 17-year-old deaf and half-blind family dog has apparently spent the cold and rainy night with the girl, keeping her warm. “He never left her sight. She smelled of dog, she slept with the dog.” Leisa Bennet explained. Fortunately, Aurora was in good health, despite a couple of scratches.

For his loyalty and dedication, local police awarded Max a title of an honorary police dog. We hope he gets many treats for being the best boy!

17 years!

Cattledogs (Heelers) are long lived dogs. Bluey, an Australian Cattledog lived in Victoria, Australia, & lived from 1910 to 1939 and died at the age of 29.

I just got back from Australia. Queensland has its share of scary critters...I'd be a wreck if my toddler wandered off anywhere but there in particular. Max is a hero to be sure.

The one with the Harry Potter lightning bolt was a TWICE rescue girl. After working extensively suppressing her 'issues', she became the sweetest thing in the world. It was a sad day when she passed

my mother had me in a playpen in the front yard

People did not lock their doors back then where we were.

A rabid fox came along and was trying to get me.
Our young fox terrier dog who loved to sit outside my pen and let me pull her tail
stepped in and fought the fox.
My mother heard the commotion and got me.
Our dog broke the fox's leg and tore off it's tail
That slowed the fox and allowed to police to catch up to the fox and shoot it.

The fox had got 15 other dogs that morning. And they all had to be put down.
Our dog was written up in the paper and effectively on death row.
Some young vet read the story, called and asked if he could try a new vaccine on her.
After six months in quarantine in our basement where we visited her wearing special hospital clothes and gloves to prevent contamination, she survived and lived a full 16 year life.

Heelers have a reputation of being fiercely loyal to their families, so it doesn’t surprise that Max stayed with the little girl throughout her ideal. But I hope he gets some extra rations in his dog bowl tonight...!

I had a small mutt named, "Tippy," that I didn't realize how much he protected me. The only time I saw him bark at anyone was during a football game in the font yard. He thought the other boys chasing my brother and me when we had the ball was trying to do something bad. He nipped at one boy, and we had to put him in the backyard. We lived in a small town, and the city swimming pool was less than half a block away from our house. When we were younger, he would follow us to the pool, watch us check in at the lifeguard house, walk back around it to the fence closest to the shallow part of the pool to make sure we got in okay. He'd watch us for a few minutes, decide we were okay, then walk home. He was with us 15 years.

This may sound depressing, but the one thing I regret about being an atheist is not the prospect about losing out on eternal life for me, but there not being any chance of the Rainbow Bridge that pets cross over to wait for us. That poem always makes me cry - first at the thought of the joy my pets would be experiencing and then from sadness in that even if I were a believer, it's not exactly Biblical canon. But the time we have our pets, brief though it is, make them all the more special.

They deserve to live much longer lives. Without them to keep us grounded, we'd go nuts. They set an example for us.

I learned so much from my (late) dog. He taught me about the feelings of animals, and deepened my appreciation of nature. He loved music. He had a terrific sense of humor. I truly am a better and smarter person from having him in my life.

Masha, a long-haired tabby cat, saved the life of a baby abandoned in the streets of Russia — after she climbed into the box he was discarded in and kept him warm. The whiskered hero even meowed to get the attention of a passerby.
