Interesting perspective from Joan Walsh regarding her long standing professional connection with Joy Reid. Aside from Walsh's personal commentary having no recollections of any content like this, two points that jumped out at me:
1) The Reid Report was linked through Salon and at no point did anyone question the content in real time. The kind of stuff being attributed to her would have raised a red flag with someone somewhere but not a peep of criticism when she was a nobody.
2) The "offending" posts have no comments - kind of weird for something like this. That nobody snarked at her in the moment really makes me wonder if there ever was a moment.

I don't know if the archive pages are real but this feels a little reverse comey...I agree this chit is pretty wicked but really...it took 10 years for someone to notice this and nobody made the slightest comment about it until now. No contemporaneous commentary anywhere ? Not on her blog, or Salon's comment page...nowhere ???
Not buying it. This feels like a takedown attempt in progress and I'm glad that MSNBC didn't take the bait. We shouldn't either.

(30,481 posts)Really shady sources being thrown around. Then the go-to CNN article that doesn't dispute Reids claim.
I think patience is the way to go here. It's clearly coordinated but that doesn't mean it isn't the truth.

At this point its not about the homophobic aspect to me. That timeframe has been covered and apologies have been accepted or not. Right now we have either a right wing hit job that appears to involve a certain level of coordination or Reid is lying about something that is already known about her around that time.

(3,555 posts)as if that's a sign of being guilty. I'm also tired of hearing that he should of stayed and fought. Yes, I was hoping he would stay, but I also know what it's like to be in an environment and on a committee where you can feel the hostilities of your co-workers. When no one will work with you or even come to your defense. Franken was one of kind,
when it came to being a US Senator. He wasn't afraid to challenge Sessions and that was basically why the right went in for the kill. He became a threat so he had to be silenced. The atmosphere at the time was ripe for sexual harassment charges coming out daily against a myriad of men, so why not exploit that avenue to get rid of what the right saw as a danger. From there on it was a piece of cake for Stone and his cronies to get whoever to come out with trumped up charges. Pardon the pun. And how many came from " anonymous sources? And once he resigned, oh my, they mysteriously stopped. How convenient was that? So, do I believe the first 2 women that came out against him, a b s o l u t e l y not! Do I believe they were bribed in some way or promised a brighter financial future, I certainly do!
And now, evidently Joy Reid is becoming very popular, hell, I always watch both days shes on in the morning. She's got a great show. When someone is on that feels is misrepresenting the actual facts, she doesn't just sit there and let them rattle on, she challenges them. Something very few hosts on MSNBC do. So yes, I will support her to the very end. Sorry for the rant, but I just had to get off my chest, so to speak.

(4,558 posts)Ive been a follower of Joys since 2016 on Twitter when I liked her coverage on AM Joy. Id never seen or followed her blog, but Ive seen and enjoyed MANY of her tweets over the last couple years. Most of the content Ive seen from her on my twitter page has center around racial equality and challenges, but I have seen some about GLBT issues as well, and nothing Ive ever seen her tweet sounds at all like the blog posts. It just doesnt read like it was written by the same person.
I dont know if it was hers. Maybe it was hers and shes evolved, maybe it was a hack, maybe it was a really bad decision during a bad time in her life, but I do know the current Joy that Ive followed for the last couple of years isnt that person, and personally.. Im giving a full pass.

Her response this time is strange and, in fact, is what has keep this story from going away.

(61,752 posts)This is not the same stuff she apologized for before, which I wholly forgive.
If she really posted the stuff she's accused of, then...wow. She's not who I thought she was. But there's a whole lot of suspicious stuff around this.
And if this was faked to discredit Joy, THAT would be a huge scandal that should totally obliterate any remaining remnants of Glenn Greenwald's and many others' credibility. And frankly, that's what it's looking like to me. Faked.

(332 posts)Let me get this straight; Bernie loving Russian bots simultaneously hacked into multiple internet archive sites not just the Wayback Machine (which has explicitly denied such tampering), but the multiple other sites which also confirm the original postings. All for the glory of mother Russia.
Then they mystically forced Ms. Reid to hire a quack of a Cyber Guy, Former PSYOP guy to quickly declare the hack possible. Hey, sounds legit, except multiple sources state that it would require time travel.
Thats what Im looking for in a journalist: plausible deniability.

No
Had she simply stated that I am sorry, my views (like the rest of the nations) have evolved and I will sincerely try to do better in the future
.... then no one would be talking about this left punching, Comcast talking point spewing weekend host (who I agree with 90% of the time)!

(61,752 posts)These are my preliminary thoughts as this unfolds:
1. If Joy acutually wrote those blog posts, why didn't people comment at the time, particularly on the post that accused gay people of being child molesters? Even 12 years ago that would have triggered a response.
2. No comments on her blog in response to those inflammatory posts? See above. Seems off, especially since there are lively comments on her other contemporaneous posts.
3. These newly discovered supposed posts of Joy's are more extreme than her comments about Charlie Crist, for which she has already apologized. (Many people, including many gay folk, make fun of Crist for possibly being in the closet. She apologized. Over.)
4. The timing of this is.... suggestive.
5. Glenn Greenwald is pushing this. I have zero respect for him. I don't trust him. His involvement automatically raises my suspicion. Same with Wikileaks.

If she is fired it might just light a match we cant put it and shouldnt.
Make no mistake, Joy is anti racism and anti RUMP so this is all by design. Oh and she has been very effectively and accurately anti a certain Senator.

(145,817 posts)The attacks on Joy Reid by certain groups are sad https://medium.com/@investigator_21314/the-lynching-of-joy-ann-reid-by-the-bernie-left-c7de005a19fb
Instead of analyzing why POC were critical of Bernie, or why Bernie refused to campaign among POC, they started to harass and intimidate black Twitter users.
The list of victims to this aggressive crowd of Bernie supporters is long by now: Joy Ann Reid, Donna Brazile, Jehmu Greene, Neera Tanden, Kamala Harris, Maxine Waters, Yamiche Alcindor, Zerlina Maxwell, and less known Twitter users: Angry Black Lady (Imani Gandy), T_FisherKing, Mr Dane/ Mr Weeks, Sir James, Ange_Amene, Bravenak and many, many more.
What these people have in common is that
A: theyre POC,
B: theyre at times very critical of Bernie Sanders.
This in itself is enough for ongoing extreme harassment, stalking, threats, intimidation and worse.
